The other morning, one of the talking heads on the television set referred to 96th Street in Indianapolis as the "Near North Side".
Like a true Broad Riparian, I blurted "'Near North Side'? 96th street is 'way out in the country. Heck, 96th Street is, like, halfway to Fort Wayne!"*
Anything north of 86th Street is "Northern Indiana" and anything south of 38th Street is "Southern Indiana".
*96th Street roughly parallels the northern leg of Indianapolis's perimeter highway, I-465, and is the boundary between Indy proper and the first 'burb to the north, Carmel.
