Saturday Randomosity...

  • Free short fiction from Matt Bracken of EFAD fame.

  • I had a dream last night that was full of shooty spy action in a snowy quasi-post-apocalyptic Euro-type setting (which is odd because I have only ever been in Europe in summer,) that looked like it had been directed by David Fincher. I was using a CZ-52 with MagSafe ammunition, which is still bothering me even though I'm awake now. I actually have some 7.62x25 MagSafe around here someplace...

  • Overheard in Mama Carolla's last night: The woman at the table behind me informed her dining companion "...and penguins swallow the fish whole because they don't have a digestive system!" I'm sure I'll see her again at the polling place on election day, where she will put that awesome intellect to work on the knotty problem of exercising the franchise. At least the veal was good.

Years ago, when I was at the University of Iowa, the campus rag had a write up of the Music School's annual Madrigal Dinner with the priceless line, "A madrigal is a song without music."

Within 24 hours, virtually every music department and prof had that article posted on their bulletin boards.

The story by Matt Bracken is more than a little spooky. There are those in this administration that are more than capable of such things. To many Czars without Senate approval to suit me.

A friend, almost as right wing as I am, have discussed scenarios like Matt Bracken's repeatedly. His position: "They'll never get away with it. Too many Americans won't stand for it." My response: "I agree, but that won't stop them from trying."

Spooky. Great minds rolling in the same gutter--and hey! It's getting crowded down here!!

So, rappers are madrigals. I had wondered...

I was at the movies the other evening with my wife. During the time before the movie (Lawless) began the theater played some news film from newsreels during prohibition, as a sort of preview to the previews. The man of the couple sitting a few seats over from us says to his date, "Oh yea...during like the '40s and '50s they outlawed alcohol...that must be when this film is from."

I turned to my wife (we were both history majors) and exchanged a look of general concern. I then noted that the speaker was wearing a poloshirt from the other university in Texas, the one that rhymes with "baggies"...and shook my head...all that education, gone to waste.

I hadn't even noticed any other ammo for the 7.62x25 besides Warsaw Pact surplus, I guess I'll be adding that to my shopping/wish list! (Plus, after the whole thing about some being "hot loads" and split case necks, I sifted thru my small stockpile of it, to weed out any suspicious ones, lest my '52 meet an unpleasant end!)

meet with Netanyahu today. Does anyone know if that's true? I am unable
to find any reference to it anywhere else.

Intel from Israel on whats getting set to happen in the Middle East. My brother and his family live in Jerusalem - he is a minister - and a former Navy SEAL - his office is close to one of Israel 's largest underground military bases.

He called me last night which is very unusual - usually it is email. He called to tell me that he is sending his family back to the US immediately due to what he is seeing happen within the last week and what he is being told by his military contacts in both the Israel and US military. He said he is seeing with his own eyes military movements the likes of which he has never seen in his 20+ years in Israel. What he called a massive redeployment and protective tactics of forces is underway.

Over the last two days he has seen anti-aircraft missile deployments throughout the Jerusalem area including 3 mobile units that he can see from his office windows. In addition, he has seen very large Israeli armored columns moving fast toward the Sinai where Egypt has now moved in armor.

There are reports of the top military leaders meeting with Israel's Sr. Rabi which is something that has happened preceding every prior military campaign. His admonition is to watch carefully and pray for Israel and its people. He is convinced that barring something extraordinary Israel will attack Iran - with or without the US - and very soon.

It is the belief in Israel that Obama does not stand with Israel but with the Arab countries. He has told me before that Israel will saber-rattle from time to time but that this time is very different from what he is seeing and hearing. He was at the Wailing Wall 2 days ago and there were hundreds of IDF soldiers there.

As he was leaving he passed at least 20 military buses full of soldiers in route to the wall. He has never seen this before either. Just thought I would pass this along. My brother is not an alarmist by any means. When he talks like this it gets my attention for sure and usually I find he knows more than he shares.

There are reports that Israel is asking Obama to come to Israel immediately but they are being answered with silence. My opinion is that I see the making of the perfect storm....

Seems fitting.

I see that my thermonuclear comment on another post was deleted. That is Ok: it was intemperate, though heartfelt.

P.s. I trust Our Tam's judgment in these matters.

Mattexian, Wolf makes a hollowpoint for it; if it performs anything like the Hornady HP I handloaded, it's seriously nasty stuff.

The Matt Bracken story was all too likely, and I would like to point out to the DIA computers that the Ed Foster who made commentary was not me. Please track it back to it's original IP if you would.

The above was only half in jest. I suspect alternate, less public communication measures would ease everybody's sense of targetude.

Hell, in this day and age, who would look for snail mail taped inside junk mail?

And prepping some believable code phrases might not be amiss either.

How is your Grandmother anyway, and did she see a white deer behind the ferris wheel?

Justthisguy,

I have done no such thing.

I think I've met this woman. I was sitting in the United terminal and one of the "shuttle" flights up and down the coast was overbooked (they run about every 45minutes). The gate agent made the announcement "and if you volunteer your seat you'll get a $$$ voucher on United and of course, Positive Space on THE NEXT FLIGHT".

This woman stands up all indignent and says "well what if the next flight's to someplace I don't want to go?"

Speaking of the CZ-52, does anyone still make the 9x19mm conversion barrel for them? I want to get one of those & have it re-chambered for .38 Super...

Ed Foster said...

Cyberludite, you'll also have to open up the breechface for the larger semirimmed .38 super case and modify the extractor.

You might want to consider 9x21 or even 9x23 Winchester. Loaded on the light side for a CZ-52, the Winchester would do nicely, and it would be easy to fire any old 9mm Largo surplus that turned up, as they are dimensionally identical.
