- Just finished No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden. Can't figure out what the DoD had its knickers all in a twist about.
- Sometimes the news one discovers via one's sitemeter isn't happy news at all. I only got by Popgun's Place once a month or so, and now there won't be any more. :(

PopGun was nice folks. I hope his sons have many good memories to hold fast.
I was going to post a snarky comment about the DoD, but after your 3rd tab, I'm just going to go do something quiet. Rest in peace, LCpl Short.

And Pop Gun.
We are diminished.
Can't figure out what the DoD had its knickers all in a twist about.
I'll take a shot at this even though I have not read said book. Perhaps the DoD has it's nickers in a bunch because the Dear Leader isn't made out to be the badass that took down Bin Laden?
Because, you know, BHO had SO much to lose if the mission had failed and the SEALs were killed or captured.

Unfortunate that we have two opposing views from within the same "community" of former SOF folks. One side throwing the Administration under the bus for divulging secrets and sensitive information to make themselves look good in the court of public perception, and claiming it is being done to avoid failures on other pressing issues, such as the economy, healthcare, unemployment, stimulus, etc.
On the other side, we have a former SOF Warrior disclosing similar information. Heated debates rage on both sides of that particular coin, even within the SOF community.
However, the panties in a twist come from power hungry, power trippers. Mark Owen did not stop to ask "Mother may I?" prior to publishing. The less than flattering portrayal of the CINC also has the appearance, along with the organization mentioned in paragraph one, that SOF, specifically NSW (with high visibility and some level of notoriety currently) is anti-Obama, and thereby could use the media coverage to push their own political agenda/point of view and influence the outcome in November.

This, I think.
As Fuzzy Curmudgeon said.
Re blabbing stuff that others say shouldn't have been blabbed, once the secret's out, only lawyers have to still keep their mouths shut (it's true! Client confidentialities have to be maintained, even if the secret's out).
Easy Day is just another "Warren Commission" style cover-up. The "Twisted Knickers" response from the DOD is just a publicity stunt to "sell" the fictional account of this mission. Mark Owen is just the mouthpiece for this disinformation project. The truth is...
Hmmm... Who's knocking at my door at this hour?...
