A house divided...

I caught a bit of that msnbc weekend morning show on Sunday, the one hosted by that adorable, fluffy, harmless little herbivore, whatshisface, and the topic on the table was the possibility of Israel taking a punch at Iran. The panelists, as is usual for one of these round-table chats, spanned the entire msnbc political spectrum, from Trotskyite to Anarcho-Syndicalist.

This one chick seemed torn, in that while she of course deplored violence, she did understand that the Israelis might feel a little threatened by a nation whose Holocaust-denying president had publicly called for their destruction having nuclear weapons. While being a model of understatement, this did not seem too controversial to me, and yet this goateed Manhattanite Wobbly across the table from her nearly went apoplectic with denunciations, while I wondered "Is that actually a keffiyeh bunched around his neck under his tweed jacket?"

Unfortunately, the show cut to commercial before any civil political discourse could break out, leaving me feeling deeply unfulfilled. I was really hoping to hear that she was just a running dog lackey of the Jew lobbyists that control Washington, or something good like that, coming from the mouth of someone who probably makes a living writing OpEds denouncing Tea Partiers as racists.

I have always wondered how we as Americans would handle things if there were a countries that had sworn to annihilate us, and those countries had invaded ours no fewer than 6 times in the past 50 years, while between invasions they fired rockets into our cities on an almost daily basis, and sponsored terrorists to kill schoolchildren and families at schools and pizza parlors. Then, those same countries were poised to obtain nuclear weapons and their leader made public statements about using them on us.

Of course, after 9/11 it is obvious how we would handle it. We invaded two countries that had nothing to do with the attack, and passed draconian laws that circumvented our own constitution, established concentration camps, and threw people into secret prisons.
Meanwhile, a sleeper agent who was likely involved is allowed to walk free.

staghounds,

I like how the rationale behind the Israelis not giving DC warning was to "decrease the likelihood that the U.S. would be held responsible for failing to stop Israel's potential attack."

Like the fact that U.S.-supplied bombs will fall from U.S.-supplied F-15E Mudhens isn't going to be seen as U.S. responsibility enough...

I actually followed the "herbivore" link, and found that the animal in question is married to the Associate Counsel for the current resident of 1600 Penn Ave.

No, no bias here. Move along...

(Yes, I know it's MSNBC. Finding bias is like finding N2 in air.)

I'm betting on Israel Striking on Memorial Day Weekend, myself. Why? The Politicians and the Media will be gone from DC, Weather will be better, and the Republicans should have picked their next Candidate to Lose to..., er... take on Obama by then (one could Hope).

Build that Wine Cellar yet?

There's something about whathisface that makes me want to give him a wedgie and insist that he stop hitting himself. I'm a terrible person, apparently.

The "civil political discourse" was worth the price of admission. To its author's credit, he didn't repeat himself once.

The commenters, on the other hand - particularly the ones validating the author - tend to worry me. Not because I disagree with them. Rather, because there are people on the "other" side of the aisle who feel the same exact way about them; and these two groups will get us into more trouble than anything else.

Shrillness that isn't funny is just tiresome. Rabidity without wit is just tedious.

Holy frijoles batman... I just followed at the 'civil political discourse' link and nearly fell out of my chair.

That's art man... I don't care if it's against Republicans, Democrats, or puppies and kitties, it's nice to see someone using their over-done hatred of another group to make something so awesome.

I'm going to print it out and practice reading it out loud! I bet it's even more awesom out loud!
