Burning the village to save it...

With the War on Poverty stalled in heavy fighting in the urban center of the Great Society, we opened a second front on Drugs. Among the collateral damage was the lower class inner city family; killed in the crossfire, helped right to death.

Here is the Google street view of the corner of 27th & Clifton on the north side of Indianapolis, east of the river and west of "War Zone D":

The hard 'hood. Scorched earth in Lyndon Johnson's cynical vote-buying campaign; the back forty of the Democrat plantation.

Just a few doors from here, where it was initially reported that a three-year-old child had been shot answering a stranger's knock on the door, it turned out that... well... maybe the mother's initial 911 call hadn't been what you'd call "entirely truthful" and the child hadn't been shot by some randon door-knocker:
Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Aggravated Assault Unit determined that the gunshot originated from inside the residence. Police were initially told that the child was shot after answering a knock at the door.
I'm going to guess it was the current boyfriend for whom the lie was fabricated as a cover, and not the child's biological father, but now that's just me being cynical. And I hate being this cynical around Christmas, but there you go.

Luckily, the kid's gonna pull through. He'll get to compare bullet scars with his friends at fifth-grade recess. Thanks, Lyndon.

The Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce called; they want to know if you can you knock it off?

We called Hell to get comments from LBJ. He was occupied with a rather large pineapple but promised to call once he could hold rectal matter without a sling.....anytime now.

I am so stealing that.

I see how you used Google to show the area instead of actually- you know-0 going there. I wonder how many Googlebugs are sitting in hoods like that missing engines, tires, up on blocks on fire?

Unintended consequences are a mother, ain't they LBJ? Of course, Nixon making Elvis an honorary DEA officer was equally stupid, except that I suspect Elvis really did want to keep kids from doing drugs...
... so they could give them to him.

And the odds against the actual culprit having some kind of felony conviction in his background are, what? Non-existent?

Og,

"Drive" the Google bug south down Clifton for a block a click at a time, paying attention to the sidewalk on your right. It's worth it for the chuckle. :)

Tam and Og,
Today on Wild Kingdom we see the Urbanus Hoodraticus in its natural habitat. This is a particularly well fed male of the species.

lol. Actually both directions are pretty good. Cars, halfnaked drunks, and what I can only assume are unauthorized pharmaceutical transactions. Gotta love Indianapolis.

Dad and I used to rewire houses and do heating work down there for absentee landlords. Not a place you wanted to be after dark. Hell, not a place you wanted to be at high noon.

When lamenting "what ever happened", don't forget how affirmative action and minimum wage laws forced the poor and minorities out of the work place.

And gun controls -- even the "modest" inconveniences -- artificially amplify inflation to keep costs beyond the reach of many people that are thus kept victims.

Go south to the 'T' intersection and look at the billboard on the red building - "NOT ONE MORE DEAD CHILD". Wounded maybe...
