Dec. 26th - Dec. 31st: Least productive week on the American calendar. RT if you're just phoning it in right now.

If there wasn't stuff we desperately need from the grocery store... And I guess the dishes won't do themselves. But that's about the height of my ambition today.

Normally, I'd be right there with you. This year, yeah. No choice but to be productive. I prefer it your way.
It has occurred to me that this is the real reason that all media seems to go to "Year In Review" pieces this week. :D
Well, they need to make sure we got every piece of wisdom they felt we needed to know.
at least that is my take on lies in review.
At least I did my employer the courtesy of taking days off, rather than phoning it in from work.
Taking time off also gives me the option of deciding to do something at fairly short notice. I'm thinking of going camping for a couple of days between now and 01 January 2014....
back when I lived by myself in an unincorporated area, I handled dishes with a spring loaded trap. "new" ones were pennies apiece at the local garage sales, and they are a LOT more challenging to powder than clays are.
Yup. I'm just keeping an eye on the production data fixing the occasional problem that pops up (and longing for the day my permanent code fix for said problem worms its way through our glacial release process).
Meanwhile I'm reading all the internet lore on XM193 since I'm going to use that to zero and play with the Nikon P-223 I mounted up last night (pic on book of face).
I have components to do about 1,500 55gr reloads but want to zero to what I most commonly see on the shelf then load develop to match.
This is my first AR since 1994 so I'm learning stuff that is old hat to you and most of your readership I reckon.
I'm on the flip side of those taking time off or calling it in.
We have three people taking time off until after the first of the year which makes three shifts short handed.
I get to take up the slack.
Seven days a week while short handed until after the first.
Hello overtime.
Enjoy the down time while you can!
It's a sham. I show up and I stare at a wall. I take a long lunch and then I stare at the wall/play on the internet till 5. And for this "work" I get to save my vacation days for when it matters.... summer.
I feel bad for the chumps who burned vacation time this week.
One thing I like about this time of the year, we get to see Harris Faulkner instead of Shepard Smith on FOX News.
I was stuck in the Honda service department when the Good Morning America year in review came on.
It consisted of 5 seconds video and sound bytes linked together for an eternity of condescension.
I would have given up every secret I ever known just to have someone turn it off.

Bah, humbug. Even with calling in sick on Monday, and going home sick halfway through the day yesterday, I worked my ass off this week.
A friend of mine calls Thanksgiving through New Year's National Goof Off Month. He's not wrong.
It's nuts. If it wasn't Christ's birthday they'd just declare a two week, paid holiday for everbody.
As it stands now we have to drive back and forth to work, turn lights and computers on for no other reason but to keepup appearances
My company does it right. They close from the 23rd to the 2nd. And this year, they paid us for the days off, so we didn't have to use vacation days. But they had me at "go home".
