"No place in the state of New York" -Gov. Cuomo

Word is that Remington will be moving as many as 1,600-2,000 jobs from its Ilion, New York facility, which it has occupied since before either the Democratic or Republican parties even existed in their current incarnations, to a new facility in Alabama.

With their corporate HQ now in North Carolina, a new assembly plant in Kentucky, and ammo manufacturing relocated from Connecticut to Arkansas, this gives Big Green a decidedly Dixie flavor.

The South went into the locker room at halftime behind on the scoreboard because they had no industry, and especially no organic arms industry. Good to see the North is diligently working to reverse that imbalance for the second half. Very sporting of y'all.

Because better to lose jobs and essentially ghost an entire small town than respect the Constitution, freedom, and all that silly old stuff.

That's strange...I'm fairly sure I saw a commercial on during the Super Bowl(and more recently), about how the New New York will do anything to help your business get set up in their state.

Why yes...the even have a website, and motto.

Hypocrisy much?

I'm just glad the companies involved are finally getting involved enough to move.

It so happens that I'm sitting on the edge of Huntsville right now. Which, believe it or not, has of the most intelligent and best educated populations in the country.

(Like Los Angeles has one of the prettiest- rocket scientists meet rocket scientists and...)

One of the world's largest white paper mills is nearby, and it's planned for closure this quarter. We've all wondered at the idea that a huge, modern factory, with rail, water, road and power connections- will just be torn down.

Maybe Rem will take it over.

We in Lower Alabama want to thank Gov. Cuomo. :)

Now let's just pray the UAW gets rejected here like it did in TN.

Yes, I know UAW doesn't have anything to do with an arms plant but it will tell whatever union that does function up in the NY plant to not bother down here.

Now if we can just get Dick Yuengling to move his brewery to Bowling Green.

Note to American regions planning another war of secession: Have a gun industry.

Wishing Dixie all the best in the future, from all of us who've already informally seceded (and hope not to be noticed for it.)

Joel,

Given the county-by-county breakdown, modern secession'd be like a case of the appendix having its inflamed body removed.

We welcome the jobs chased out of NY and relocating here in Huntsville by politically correct politicians willing to cut off their noses to spite their face.

Oh, is that what a "ghost gun" means? Here's to an entire NY ghost gun industry!

They're in Florida now too. I'm not sure if that counts as South by you guys though.

SM,

I think they still have the old place in Pottsville.

Florida: where old New Yorkers go to die.

Cuomo said: “right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay,” have “no place in the state of New York.”

Way to piss off huge segments of your population, Mario.

See, believe it or not, those are three separate groups. There's overlap, sure. I had to draw a Venn diagram to figure out that the separate groups that will be offended. (Anti-gays, Anti-Gays Who Hate Guns, Anti-Gays Who Aren't Anti-Abortion, Gun lovers, Gun Lovers Who Aren't Anti-Gay, Gun Lovers Who Aren't Anti-Abortion.... Oh, bother...)

I thought that this guy was supposed to be a pro?

I hope you all remember Mario's words when he runs for national office and vote accordingly.

Remington Coming to Alabama with 2,000+ jobs! I'd like to personally thank Gov. Cuomo, the tyrannical sonofabitch, for making it possible.

From No Lawyers, Just Guns and money: Rob Curtis at the Military Times' GearScout blog is reporting this afternoon that Remington Outdoor Company aka Freedom Group will be building a new plant in Huntsville, Alabama. This new plant is reported to be equivalent in production capacity to their Ilion, NY plant. However, this new plant will supplement but not replace the Ilion plant.
From Yellowhammer News: Remington Arms moving 2,000+ jobs from NY to Alabama
High level sources have informed Yellowhammer News that Remington, one of the world’s largest gun manufacturers, will on Monday join Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley in announcing that they are bringing over 2,000 jobs to Alabama.
The company is viewing the move into Alabama as an expansion, but it will likely impact their Ilion, NY plant as well. The New York faci0

They're smart enough not to try to ship a product that's 94% water half way across the country and still try to compete with the local microbrews.

Which is great, because I can get a decent lager for $16/case at the local warehouse store.

Staghounds,

Rifle with custom barrel/action/stock, storage case, cleaning gear, spare parts, armorer's tools and training, etc, etc

It still seems/is high but it includes more than just the rifle.

Well at least we'll still have Hi-Point!

Tampa, Florida has the other Yuengling Brewery, south of the University of South Florida main campus and just a few thousand yards north of Busch Gardens, where beer production was shifted long ago to Jacksonville, Florida

Wish someone made a replica.

You mean that the burned out shell of it was, of course.

if there is a second half, it's not Remington to be hoping for so much as Boston Dynamics. Sourhern Chivalry meets Yankee Ingenuity didn't work out so well in round one.

"Seems high"?

What, four times retail?

Pull the other one, it has bells on it. South Texas has it right, straight up corruption.

staghounds asked about an expensive sounding sniper rifle:

If you read the article closely, you also see "The contract calls for the delivery of rifle systems that include AAC Titan QD suppressors and millions of rounds of Barnes ammunition, according to Hanna's office.".

So, not just 5,000 rifles.

Also 5,000 suppressors and several million rounds of Barnes .308, .300WM, or .338 Lapua, and fancy scopes (which the PSR includes in the spec).

And contra "four times retail", you can't buy an MSR retail, even not in PSR spec. Remington won't sell you one, and they have no really comparable civilian-market product.

Sigvald -- and ongoing logistical support is generally boilerplate in single source procurement contracts.

As a former defense contractor, I expect that 2/3 of any government contract will be to cover all the paperwork, inspectors, and bean-counters needed to prove they aren't cheating the government. Is $5-6,000 unreasonable for a customized high-performance sniper rifle, and the full kit of parts and tools you'll need to keep it working for 50 years?
