From the VFTP Mission Statement:

I always feel free to use jargon, acronyms, foreignese, and twenty-five-cent words on my blog, and I don’t provide them with hyperlinks, either.

If someone comes across something they don’t understand, and are unable to figure out what it means despite being hooked up to the largest and most ridiculously easy-to-use information network in the history of the human race, they deserve whatever suffering and distress it causes them, plus a thorough application of the bastinado.

Breda,

It never fails to amaze me when someone uses the internet to type the question "What does [xxxxx] mean?" and they type it someplace other than a search engine box.

Can you provide a link to click to get to http://www.google.com? I cant find it.

Babes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/[whatever topic you're looking up; if it's more than one word, use an underscore for the spaces]

Learn it. Love it.

(I can also go straight to specific zip codes on Weather Underground without going through the search box. Thank you, I'm here all week.)

Do you REALLY have to drag their parents' marital status into the issue?

Great post, but what does bastinado mean?

What?

Sheesh. You don't have to squawk and complain like I flogged your feet or anything.

I've watched my father do that.

Besides Tam, you're missing the point. They're not supposed to have to look things up on their own. You're supposed to do it for them....

I believe we, as a nation, need to identify that there is a divide in this nation and do something about it. There are those that have and those that do not. Things are not fair. We need to take from one group and give it to another. We can't have one class of people better off while another class suffers. There needs to be action taken to level the playing field. A distribution to the "have nots" from those that already have plenty.

Wealth? No. Intelligence.

I always figure that if someone asks me a question like that while connected to the internet, they deserve the answer they get, no matter how accurate it is or isn't. :D

On Firefox at least: Select text. Right click. Click "Search ___ for ___ ..."

I do so love living the future.

Heck, got a fax from a B&W machine requesting the color they sent me.

Ummm, ok, black it is then.

Well, I did have to look up DPICM, but my general guess was close. I'm gong to look for some of those at the next gun show.

What does "VFTP" stand for?

(ducking)

I have wondered about VFTP for many posts, but it didn't seem to matter that I wasn't one of the club. The DPICM is one of those fine improvements in neighborhood wrath. But having been in that business, I know too much about it... bastinado comes almost to mind - but I was a strange boy reading about horrible things done in the cause of... well, name it.

And if you still can't figure it out, ask Rex Ryan.

Earl,

"I have wondered about VFTP for many posts, but it didn't seem to matter that I wasn't one of the club."

Don't worry, there isn't any club. (And, like Groucho Marx, I wouldn't belong to one that would have me as a member. :) )

(It's "View From The Porch"... :) )

The only time I mind having to look it up myself is when someone uses such an obscure acronym that Google's response to my query is "huh?".

Then, it would be nice to have an explanation.

I did not know that. Thank you very kindly.

"Acromegalic" led me to wander round the web aimlessly for about an hour, ending up looking at all the different guns that James Bond, 007 has carried in his different movies.
Six degrees of separation . . . . . . (the actor who played "Jaws" in a Bond movie was agromegalic)

Yeah, but WTF do folks mean when they say Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? You would think drinking would impair motor skills, making dancing a bad idea...

Like Bruce, I've been doing it the hard way for a long time.

Thanks.

And Merry Christmas, a Happy and Prosperous New Year to all y'all. I say this in spite of the fact that y'all pretty much blew off the recent Winter Solstice.

Wordsmith and occasionally WyrdSmyth: you have that distinctively sharp edge, Ms. Tamara K.

The Algonquin Round Table would have been meet company, for such word-forging.

Prosper well and live long.

Did you find the tenor of this post at all out of character for the place?

ViolentIndifference said...

I didn't hear any tenors.

Thank you all for providing me with considerable humor this morning. VFTP? WTF?
