Oddly enough, this showed up in today's "Quote of the Day" feed:
"There is no nonsense so arrant that it cannot be made the creed of the vast majority by adequate governmental action."

The Academy has a history of picking stupid choices for Best Documentary ("Bowling for Columbine") but this takes the cake. I can't believe filming a PowerPoint an eighth-grader could have done of global warming studies is enough to qualify nowadays. Whatever you think about global warming, Gore and Co. could have at least turned it into an actual documentary.

Shaun: As Bertrand Russell once said, "The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation." I think we can all appreciate the relevance of that now.
Liz: Was that on a beer mat?
Shaun: Yeah, it was Guinness Extra Cold.
Liz: I won't say anything.
Shaun: Thanks.

As Vint Cerf once said, "Power corrupts; PowerPoint corrupts absolutely."

If they are, I've got a couple of dozen I'd like to submit for the academy's consideration. It would be nice to have an Oscar to put on the back of the toilet...
