Talking points memo...

So, our very hierarchic and top-down opponents have been handed the term "ghost gun", referring to guns made via 3D printers and 80% receivers and suchlike, and commanded to go forth and wring their hands theatrically about the "Ghost Gun" Menace. They have dutifully headed out in search of cameras and microphones and delivered their "Anti Ghost Gun" speeches with more or less success, as we have all seen.

So, how gun-shaped of a piece of metal will they tolerate? 70% receivers? I mean, a relatively abstract lump of steel is a 40% receiver if you look at it from the right angle. Heck, Lowe's sells 90% Sten receivers on aisle 5.

This is what comes of people trying to outlaw a basic technology who have absolutely no understanding of that technology. (Or of the laws which already exist to regulate it. Parsing Senator Kevin's speech to what we think he was trying to say in English reveals a stunning lack of information on existing firearms law and regulation.)

A "ghost gun" - is that the part of the shoulder thing that goes up ?

That was good for my first morning laugh...thanks...

"90% sten receivers on aisle 5", I'm stealing that. I think we can all agree our opponenets don't want to be knowledgeable, they want to get that knee jerk reaction and get legislation passed that doesnt make any sense, but accomplishes their goals.

What it sounds like, to me, is some form of glossolalia, or perhaps Tourette's Syndrone where instead of barking and cursing, you get sounds like "cauleeber", "bult", "m'g'zeen", "klihp" and "froinlaven" scattered at random through the speech.

It's a shame that the national media had to put this poor man's speech impediment in the spotlight.

It seem they tolerate less than 5% , judging by the way children drawing guns, and making finger guns get treated. Don't even think about it!

Is there any cooler "look" than a Red Devil shooting a Sten while standing up during WW2? :-)

I know, I know...it's pure Hollywood.

His "...stunning lack of information..." will neither prevent him from drafting laws that the grim-faced window-dressing dude behind him may have to enforce nor stop his low-information constituency from returning this moron to Sacramento (which is kind of a "coals to Newcastle" thing)

All-time BEST comment on homemade guns, ever.

This will be quoted and linked at my blog.

They have 100% STEN shotgun barrel in the plumbing department.

I'm sure you could get a recoil spring and 90% Wire Stock in there too!

The rest can be ordered at Brownells!

Good thing they haven't heard about the Brownells loophole!

You can order GUN PARTS no background check at all!

They are willing to accept less than whatever is available at the time of the conversation, whenever that may be.

Like everything else.

Anti gun people make it a point not to know anything about their target. There's good historical precedent, read Klan publications for a start.

He doesn't have to know what he is talking about.

If he did, he would be guilty of crimethink, and would then need to be purged or re-educated.

He has bellyfeel for goodthink and gives good quackspeech.

He will go far in the inner party.

Legislators' knowledge bank and expertise rarely extends far beyond how to get elected, yet they are the ones who write the laws that the rest of us must obey.

Per the Sten thing - I want to see the look on their faces when someone informs them it's far easier to make an open-bolt submachinegun than pretty much any other repeating firearm on Earth.

And yet there's no plague of them - because the sort of people who do amateur gunsmithing are mostly people who don't want to break the law.

(And because the average criminal or gangbanger doesn't want the kind of attention that a brap-gun gets if you use it.)

There was a story out of Australia of a guy arrested for making pretty dang good MAC-10s in his garage.

"Anti-gun Senator makes a fool of himself."

Over Christmas I made myself an AR lower from a 0% receiver. Started with a plain old block of aluminum. That wasn't even my first gun. When I went to gunsmithing school we made a falling block single shot from scratch except for the barrel blank. Made the screws, springs and pins. How will they stop that, outlaw knowing how to use a milling machine lathe?
(and I love the 90% Sten receiver comment)

Newsflash! Brillliant CA Dem(tard) legislator has discovered that fiendish criminals have thwarted their clever attempts at order by not obeying the laws! ZOMG!

STOP THE PRESSES!

That only leaves one solution: Ban Criminals! In 3, 2,...

@Richard: That's the Senator's armed guard, because the _important_ people need to be protected.

Micki Mahoney said...

What an idiot. The technical term for a "ghost gun" is proton pack. And we all know what kind of shizzle goes down when you ban those...

Joel said...

Ignorance of current law is irrelevant, since "They're not completely banned" = "we have no gun laws."

To a gungrabber, everything short of a total ban is only prelude.

NotClauswitz said...

This is what a "Legislature" looks like in a fanatical One-Party state with no functioning opposition and no limits placed upon them, it's all up to their imagination.

Jonathan H said...

@Joel - good point "since "They're not completely banned" = "we have no gun laws."" is a great way to sum up their views on many subjects. With them it is all of their views and none of yours, with no middle ground allowed.

There are some places that sell 60% receivers to stay further from the ATF; I suspect we'll see more of them in the future.
