I have a smoothbore slug barrel with rifle sights on the 870, and I also have a 209x50 Encore muzzleloader. I was just curious about the optics setup to use on my .243 pistol, and the scope I should use is apparently a .44 magnum lever-action carbine. I don't know if I have a set of rings that can hold a Marlin 1894, and it's gonna look funny bolted on top of a pistol, but if y'all say so...
(The above should be read with a tone of wry amusement. I mean, it's not like it's my first day talking guns on the internet and I well know that even if somebody asks whether they should use a Ruger LCP or a S&W Bodyguard .380 for pocket carry, ten posts in somebody will have recommended a Glock 21 and by page two of the thread, two people will be at each other's throats over the maximum fragmentation range of military M855 ball ammo.)

Have you decided what bullets you're going to run through the encore?
Spear
Set one up. I double dog dare you.
I'd expect some arguing about SBRs now...
Oh, you and your endless optimism! Ten posts in before the Glock fanboy arrives? Fragmentation of 5.56 not until page 2? From here out, I may just lead with those two. Or maybe the Bren Ten, if I'm feeling particularly argumentative. Did anyone tell you to buy a .30-06 and just hunt elsewhere?
And by your blatant omission of them, I assume you hate bayonets on your rifle-caliber handguns!
Army Infantry used to have a special .50 caliber tracer rifle aligned with the 106mm Recoilless. The idea was that you picked out a suspect shadow, and shot at it with the .50 tracer, and when you got the .50 to bounce off armor, you followed it with the 106mm shaped charge.
The 106mm was mounted on a jeep, but could be separated to fire off a tripod. By contrast, the Marines had the Ontos.
I have a scope on my 35 Rem Encore.
I left it at a relatives house, haven't shot it in years and have no idea what scope is on it.
All I can remember is that the fine line crosshairs are REALLY hard to see in daylight, forget it in twilight.
Glad I could be of service.
Always happy to help. :)
I have personal experience running an M203 so I recommend that highly, you could also get an M79 or M32 if you're okay with the price tags.
You need a shoulder thing that goes up.
I dunno about any one else but I come by for the car pics.
There are a lot of glock guys out there. I took an NRA class once with a Glock Armorer and he offered to fix any failing glock the class had. You never saw so many glocks come out of the wood work.
21 people in the class and I bet he fixed 15 glocks.
OOps.. Sorry, make that Contender not Encore.
FWIW I ran an EER 4X Leopold on a .308 WIN XP100 successfully for years. Guns long since gone but the scopes still packed around here somewhere if I ever go with another Contender.
With the new camera will there be some high res pics of the 1894/.243 combo soon?
But what caliber is correct for bear?
I have a Leupold M-8 2x EER scope you are welcome to use this season and see how you like it. I wont be needing it anytime soon.
I sent an email. Let me know if you want to try it out. It would give you a chance to run a 2X and see what you think without having to spend money to buy one.
Malamute
The only thing weirder than the comment thread on that post is IN's hunting regulations.
Keep us posted though. I am awaiting your optic selection, ammo choice and eventual hunt.
"..page two of the thread..."
Well, THERE's your problem!
M
44 mag waaaaggggaarrrbbbblellleelele! :-D
Sorry, I know nothing about pistol optics, wanted to contribute something in case you weren't aware of that wrinkle in Indiana's deer hunting laws
Tam, I bet you that as a result of your post, some yahoo will rail the fore-end of his Marlin & attach an Encore to it.
