Get the funk out...

After a wet April-May-June-July, it's been a bone-dry August. As a result, Indy's sewers are dry and when you get down around Fall Creek, the pong rising to fill the low-lying air is eye-watering. I don't see how the fixie-riding hipsters that infest the Delaware St. corridor south of the creek can stand it.

But, stink is Nature at work.

All good hippies love nature. or maybe not since they all wear designer foot wear.

You don't understand.

Hipsters hated the smell before you even noticed it. Now that you have noticed the smell, you just cannot appreciate how good it is. See, appreciation of fine sewage comes only with prolonged exposure of it to the olfactory system. You would know that...if you were cool.

Mud can be very bioactive, with the smell mostly undetectable when covered by water. Ask anyone who lives on the coast where tidal flats are exposed when the water recedes.

Didn't the receding waters of the White river expose a body in recent years?

Yeah, a grief-stricken fixie hipster who found out someone else had heard of his favorite band.

Before he did.

Hipsters don't really bother me, any more than any other homogenous group of "rebels" does. Having teenaged girls really cleanses the pallet when it comes to people who want to be different all the same way. It has also proven, that even at the bottom of the social pyramid (High School Girls) the leadership doesn't have to go by the same rules as the plebeians.

The road past the Kaanapali treatment plant on the west-side of Maui can be pretty eye-watering in August and December during high-season - especially when you get an offshore breeze that blows towards the new Marriott condos that contribute mightily to the concentration of funk. They built more vacation condos but didn't expand the plant's capacity (as far as I can tell). Better to go off-season anyhow, and avoid the crowds at Kaanapali too.

Since I design treatment plants for a living whenever my son complains about the funk when I take him with me to visit a job site I always tell him the same thing, "It smells like money to me."

I don't think it helps with the smell, but I hope he appreciates a little more where all his toys and games come from.

Uh, maybe the B.O. is strong enough to mask it.
That, or the nose piercing got too close to the olfactory receptors.
