Try to learn something new every day.

For instance today I learned that assembling a Raven Concealment Moduloader would be a lot more fun at home, sitting at my desk with proper tools and a beer and time on my hands than it is on the morning of the big game, in a hotel room, with a Leatherman and a Mountain Dew.

It's not very racegun, even though I've adjusted the tension on the mag holders down as far as it will go, but it'll still beat fishing a spare AR mag out of a Royal Robbins vest pocket like last year. I don't recollect there being any stages here where a blazing fast rifle reload is going to be important, but I'm trying to correct each specific gear-related deficiency I had at that previous match.

How are you carrying your shotgun shells?

Four extras on the gun and then I'm boned and back to the pocketses.

There's only one or two stages where it looks like more than a mag tube will be necessary; I think I can mitigate the worst of it with some careful stage planning. It's a lot easier when your goal is "don't lose" rather than "win". ;)

You could always hit the Bugtussle Grill & Sporting Goods Emporium and pick up a $1.98 shotshell bandolier... just sayin'....

If I'm only needing to stage two or three shells, my hip pocket is probably faster than a $1.98 elastic bandolier. ;)

Perhaps the aforementioned BG&SG Emporium would have some belt mounted shell holders, or a buttstock sleeve?

I. Already. Have. A. Four. Shell. Sidesaddle. On. The. Gun.

I am not calling a cab to go hunting up the local Dick's to spend more money to possibly shave a half second on one stage of a nine stage match.

If I was in the running for the possible fifteen grand in prize money? Sure, I'd be all keyed up about this. But I'm going to be walking the prize table down at the point where you're deciding between a flashlight or another cleaning kit.

IT'S JUST NOT THAT BIG A DEAL, INTERNET. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUGGESTIONS BUT I THINK I'VE GOT THIS ONE UNDER CONTROL.

Well, don't lose. I have no advice either as I have never had desire to 3 gun. Although that could be changing.

That depends. How nice is the flashlight and how many cleaning kits do you have cached away?

I, for one, would appreciate an AAR on what gear works and what doesn't, in both categories: A) The Sooper Slik Stuff the top racegunners use, and; B) Whatever average stuff and tricks are used by us normal folk. I see some of the "A" stuff at 3-gun matches, but there's always something New & Neat to drool over, but my 30 rounders go in hip pockets, and after I empty the 6 shell sidesaddle I'm fishing in my cargo pockets. I'm sure there are multiple Better Ways, but "simple, easy and within budget" has value.

BTW, good luck.

And, have fun.

Define "don't lose". I find it less ego crushing to look at my IDPA placement as X places up from bottom overall. Would dead last be losing?

The good thing about IDPA is looking at the breakdown of division and class makes me feel not as bad.

Duct tape. Cheaper than a bandolier.

Wad of chewing gum stuck on the shell and then to your arm. As many as you can fit.

What? At least it's an improvement over my last great idea, which involved a hot glue gun. Stupid Martha Stewart.

Tam,

do they allow a Redi-Mag on an AR? Back in '94, I wasn't allowed to use one, at a big 3 Gun Match. They considered it to be cheating.

Also curious why a 4 shell, instead of 6, sidesaddle.
That was ok at that match, but a couple years later, I couldn't use it during a tactical shotgun class. Instructor wanted belt mounts. Still shake my head when I think of that.

Will,

I guess they would? I'm not absolutely familiar with open class rules, though.

I went with a Mesa 4 she'll holder because I decided that this was going to need to be a multipurpose gauge, for HD, gun school, and the occasional match.
