Selective outrage.

So Chris Brown, convicted of felony girlfriend-beating, has been denied entry into the UK. The reason given was:
"We reserve the right to refuse entry to the UK to anyone guilty of a serious criminal offense," said Barbara Woodward, director of the UK border agency's international group. "Public safety is one of our primary concerns."
Okay, that's understandable. He's a jerk with a proven history of violence. He might leap off the stage and start beating somebody in the audience and we wouldn't want that.

What I wonder, though, is why the same concern about the safety of the citizenry isn't displayed with certain other entrants?

Wonder if they'd let Rihanna in? After all, she hit him, too. Hell, she's the one that started the hitting. Never have figured out why it's okay for a woman to not be able to control herself and hit a man, but it's not okay for a for a man to do the same. The message from society at large is apparently for men to act like grown ups and women to act like poorly raised four year olds and hit whoever is disagreed with when the emotions get too high. Them controlling themselves and not hitting certainly would cut down on domestic violence. Sooner or later some guys are going to lose their mud after being hit enough (or have stuff bounce of his head that she threw at him) and deck her. Cause and effect, and all that...

People who hit to reinforce their argument, male or female, are wrong. There is no rational defense for what they do.

As for Barbara Woodward; public safety is one of you primary concerns? Really? I'm guessing political correctness is THE primary concern. I'm also guessing she doesn't take public transportation...

Who's "Rihanna"? (For that matter, who is "Chris Brown"?)

The nugget of the post was in the quote and the latter links. I certainly didn't mean for it to serve as a springboard for the tiresome "Menz suck!" "Oh yeah? Well wimmenz suck, too!" "I said it first!" "Nuh-uh! No taps back!" stuff that makes up the Internetz Battle o' The Sexes these days. ;)

Funny, I went to the link to read the article and saw this link on the paper's sidebar:

Wonder when they'll change "Great Britain" to be "NotsoGreat Britain".

Chris Brown's victim didn't have to hear him shout "Allahu Akbar!" first. That's the difference.

My wife was taught that she could hit/throw things. Re-education took place very early in our relationship. It only happened once and she very quickly understood that self control is for women too.

I figure that if a woman gets the back of your hand because she started hitting you and still doesn't understand that violence will very quickly beget even greater violence then maybe its time to put her on the curb.

Sadly these days if we all did that the curbs would be very full.

Cripes, Tam...the samich should be ham and you put the strychnine in the ice tea (unless dealing with a snake handler).

Clearly you aren't eating enough pulled pork.
