Well, I needed some cheery news!

I awoke this morning to find Ariel Castro's lawyer all up in my grill on the television, being huffy and indignant that his client hadn't been prevented from doing the right thing and making a windchime of himself in his prison cell.

Mr. Weintraub, understand me clearly here: I don't care that Castro wasn't stopped from throwing himself a necktie party. Had it been up to me, they'd have walked into the cell, thumped a Makarov and a single round on the table, and walked out to await the sound of the gunshot. Your guy was using up oxygen that could have been put to better use elsewhere.

I just wish he'd chosen a more painful exit...

Yeah, but I'll take my wins where I can get them.

Would that more of these dirtbags took the same route.

Considering security measures in prison I wonder if he was given the choice? Plenty of people willing to make his life miserable inside. A guard mentioning a time period he wouldn't be watched along with some tips on how to carry it out doesn't seem too impossible. Especially if you couple it with a suggestion that similar time periods would be made available for his fellow inmates to show their appreciation, for decades.

However it happened it came too late, he should have been strung up to the tallest oak tree shortly after his arrest. I certainly hope no corrections officers get in trouble over this piece of crap doing the right thing.

No. In America you get a trial. There's no "dirtbag exemption" to the Bill of Rights.

You start stripping people you think are dirtbags of their rights, and it's only a matter of time before somebody decides that maybe you don't need any, either.

I could handle strung up shortly after the verdict. Out in front of the courthouse even.

Not only that, but they forcibly shaved Nidal Hassan.

Coffee tastes extra sweet this mornin'...

I would also hazard the guards might have allowed a little bird to let castro know what his options were.

I also would have like a oak in vicinity of the court.

@sobriant74 - Regarding "came too late," the total victim count should have been less than zero because Potential Victim #1 provided a Real World Education once it became apparent the initial contact turned substantially negative.

Once the deed is done, as Tam pointed out, one is entitled to their complete share of the entire process, conducted by grownups in the bright light of day. Alert and responsible prospective victims, however, also have an entitlement to assertively decline that status somewhat earlier in the process.

I agree with Alien, I wish Castro had been properly ventilated when he went to collect victim #1 and we didn't have this ordeal to deal with.

As it is, I'm pretty fine with him becoming rapidly room temperature as of 9:20pm (EST) last night. Suits me just fine.

Although, I admit, I might have preferred to see him strung from a tall oak, outside the courthouse about fifteen minutes after he plead guilty.

I don't consider his suicide good news; I really wanted him to live a long, healthy, and miserable life surrounded by bars and concrete.

Society would of gained nothing by the long incarceration of Mr. Castro. Society does gain a sense of satisfaction at his passing.

TJIC,

"I don't consider his suicide good news; I really wanted him to live a long, healthy, and miserable life surrounded by bars and concrete."

That doesn't seem to square very well with an AnCap belief system. I mean, if you wanted to chain him up in your basement and feed him forever, fine, but I don't personally feel fiscally responsible for more than about six feet of good hemp rope.

Good riddance. At least he did one thing right in his miserable excuse for a life.

Some prison systems turn a profit. All should. You dont have to mistreat prisoners to make them earn their keep.
Still, the recidivism rate with suicide is hard to beat.

Can't say I'm sad to see him go...my only hope is that he got to meet Bubba and Shawniqua before he took the coward's way out. Experience some of what he put those three girls through...now, THAT would have been karma!

It also wouldn't surprise me to find out that he wasn't *quite* alone when it happened.

Come to the dark side of Republicanism.

I am entirely OK with hanging scum like this after a fair trial. Don't let excessive libertarianism blind you to the obvious social benefits of hanging slave-takers.

( BTW, did you ever escape from that socialist shithole of a state you were living in? )

No. Judicial rape went out with bog burials, trial by ordeal, and child sacrifice.

I find that persons who support prison rape have not had loved ones incarcerated.

Innocent until proven guilty. The process is what separates us from people in some countries that believe beheading a child is justified.

Yep. A few of those and the crime rate would hit rock bottom.

I hope they used a dull bayonet. Hopefully the execution won't be too long in coming.

If there were justice in America, he'd have been the honored guest at a necktie party on the court house lawn shortly after conviction.

Though it may seem counter-intuitive, I believe swift execution after conviction would lower the number of false convictions.

Aha, so the GI hygiene party still exists. I was part of a crew that had to wash a dude that hadn't bathed in two weeks. Simple Green and long handled scrub brushes while hogtied on the latrine floor with nice cold hose water.

Now, if they'd only hand out those purple hearts and death benefits right.

Damn good riddance, my only complaint is that he should have done it before the trial and saved the taxpayers the expense.

Okay, time for a Local Perspective.

Orient is where ALL the Adult Male Prisoners go to first BEFORE they are sent to one of the State Pens. Think of it as "Freshman Orientation." Mr. Scumbag hadn't even met Bubba yet.

While awaiting Trial up here in Cleveland, he was NOT mixed in with the General Population, but was kept in a Special Cell by his lonesome. Just like in Orient.

I can only speculate, but it seems to me that Mr.Scumbag was coming to terms with the Fact that he was going to spend the rest of his life with all the other Fine Citizens of the Ohio Penal System, and he knew his Life-Expectency was about as short as a May Fly's.

So he decided to save us all a Bunch of Money, and checked himself out.

And Three Young Women up here are probably a little pissed that he didn't spend one/one-hundreth of the time THEY had to suffer at the hands of this Useless Piece of Waste.

But then again, they don't have to worry about that Monster ever getting out again, either.

And neither do we.

As I've seen on Book of Face, pic of Curly Bill Brochus from movie 'Tombstone' tellin' Wyiat Earp, "Well, bye." My Dad told me of a G.I. party on board ship, late '30s vintage. Wet sand, canvas wash rags, and a fire hose. (Old China-hand destroyer sailors)

In Harry Harrison's Bill, The Galactic Hero our protagonist finds himself up on charges. As he's awaiting trial he's staring idly at the sturdy hook in the ceiling of his cell, and wondering why he was issued a strong belt with his prison coveralls.

That's when he realizes he has a chance. If conviction were a slam dunk "they" would not have given him an easy out.

No. We (The People) made a deal with him: he gave us an easy conviction without trial (which would only have further injured his victims), we promised not to noose him. We honor our deals; justice demands it.

Though it may seem counter-intuitive, I believe swift execution after conviction would lower the number of false convictions.

Or at least the number we discover on subsequent appeal. Hey, it looks like an improvement, and that's what matters, right?

WV: 38 untroubl. Yes, a .38, properly applied, would have resulted in untrouble.

@dave, "we"? As my dad used to say "you French or you got a mouse in your pocket?" I don't believe in plea bargains and would outlaw them if I could. He should have gotten a fair trial and fair hanging.

And more guns obviously means more gun crime, right? It's just intuitive! Swift sure execution on conviction changes the whole dynamic.

But hey, you have a theory about wrongful convictions so screw these guys right?

"Swift sure execution on conviction changes the whole dynamic."

Right, it makes justice for the wrongfully convicted impossible.

If we were not a nation of human beings, I MIGHT be able to support a death sentence. But with the BS reasons some people are put in front of a jury over... let’s just say my faith in the legal system is similar to my faith in the political system.

That being said, I have no problem with allowing the suicide of any prisoner sentenced to life in prison who is NOT appealing their conviction.

Oh, and the folks hoping for prison rape? Think about what you are wishing for. It’s monstrous.
