Blog Stuff: Yes, but what does it _mean_?

My blog is worth $5,080.86.
How much is your blog worth?

If someone will just cut me a check, she's all yours.

Well, he links to an explanation -

http://www.tnl.net/blog/entry/Doing_the_numbers_on_the_AOL-WeblogsInc_deal

- but I doubt the numbers scale. Skimming the above link, it's based upon how much AOL paid for one large network of blogs, divided by the number of incoming links. Clearly not enough points to plot a trend because AOL, with it's steadily shrinking user base, might not be the best yardstick to base prices on. Perhaps if you used more data from other media companies that were buying blogs.

I've got only three incoming links from other blogs and I'm “worth” about one kilobuck.

So the check is not in the mail, but keep writing anyway. I'm willing to bet you could parlay your gun geekage into some kind of “professional gun writer” status.
