Eagle Scout Mike Rowe occasional is asked to encourage others to also earn that award. His advice has been delivered in his unusually direct style:

I always liked the bardiche version of the bearded ax where the beard comes down and attaches to the handle.

Not sure if it's got any value, but it looks cool.

But you can't hook a shield with it!

(Although it does look better when posing for Molly Hatchet album covers! 8) )

Huh. I thought James Rummel had retired the Hell In A Handbasket blog. Thanks for the heads up! :)

Mike Rowe for President!

(Yes, I know, he's entirely too sane to consider the job.)

Drang,

It's probably the only job too dirty for Mike Rowe.

Mike truly is a national treasure.

The more I learn about Mike Rowe, the more impressed I get.

And Professor Moriarty wins the Internets.

Wow.
Serious man-crush for Mike Rowe is building, here.

Somehow, I had run across the original article when it had run, and had also been offended at it, and was curious about Rowe's permitting his image to be used in conjunction with such an elitist pile of twaddle.

Way to go, Mike.

Regarding Frank Miniter's article, he also confused a "40mm grenade launcher" with what was more likely a 37mm flare launcher. Can't picture a reason for Crimson Trace to trot out a DD just to send smoke downrange.

Beaumont,

"Regarding Frank Miniter's article, he also confused a "40mm grenade launcher" with what was more likely a 37mm flare launcher."

It was an FN40GL 40mm grenade launcher. You started the stage by engaging three close papers with a SCAR dumping it and picking up the GL off a table and engaging a car about forty yards or so downrange. The GL had a green laser on it, so you didn't even need to use the irons...

At first I was about to be contrarian and note that FNH does make a SCAR Mk15 with a heavy barrel that is suitable for SAW use.

But then he turned around and said M249 (which I assume was not a specific gun present) and sigh.

Weer'd,

The stage gun on nine, which is the stage he is describing, was a SCAR-L; no heavy barrel nothing.

The stage gun on eight, which is not the stage he is describing, was a SAW on a pintle mount hanging off a Gator.
