...when it says, in red letters on the side of the can, "NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN, PREGNANT WOMEN OR PERSONS SENSITIVE TO CAFFEINE."
Is it hot in here, or is it just me?

But I have never been able to find an energy drink that has the flavor, the zing or the comfort that can take the place of a good, rich, strong cup of coffee.

Yes...
A warm cup of coffee in the morning is just the thing to warm you up. Like that comfortable sweater that grandma gave you, or a warm fire crackling away in a pot belly stove on a winter's evening.
Some of those make pretty good tropical mixers, but have to watch out for sugar - I was consuming so much Gatorade at one point I nearly went type-II.
Just you, as usual.
More seriously, I can't stand energy drinks. Taurine tastes awful, and some of them give me the shakes if I drink a full one.
(Which is odd, since I can drink coffee like there's no tomorrow, and actual controlled-substance stimulants pose no problem. But taurine and guarana? No, thanks.)
Coffee is hot, bracing, and if you get good stuff, wonderfully flavored.
That said, there's also a certain thrill to chilling those nasty little cans until you can't taste all the crap in them, gunning them down in one go, and then riding the rush.
I was always partial to Jolt Cola - "All the sugar and twice the caffeine."
KENYANS!!
I just drink Diet Mountain Dew. No sugar and my addiction masks the flavor.
OK, I'll say it:
Hot? Yes. Yes you are.
"Caffeine! It's not just for breakfast any more."

I feel you, Tokarev.
Damn, Sam- you beat me to it.
