In the two-minute and 42-second video released Monday, Obama emphasizes that the key to victory for Democrats in November will be convincing the people who helped fuel his 2008 White House bid - first-time voters - to head to the polls for the second time in two years even though he is not on the ballot.Of course, that's going to be tough. This is a fickle demographic, and they've watched their demigod ascend to the heights, only to be revealed as yet another suit, leaving behind disillusioned campus organizers without so much as a unicorn dropping or a public option or a gay sergeant to show for it. I don't know about you, but when I was 19, I wanted results yesterday, and Barry hasn't delivered; the sky remains resolutely pieless.
I don't think the flying monkeys are going to come to his summons this time. His election was powered by discontent, but the Democrats represent the Establishment now; discontent is working against them. Plus, there's somebody else that's cornering the discontent market, and everyone knows it, no matter how desperately the media try to cover it up.

What hope have a bunch of pseudo intellectual Stasi chicks got against the Won? Sheesh, I mean, really.
From your mouth to God's ears.
(I loled when I read that, by the way, what a maroon)
Playing to people's discontent is just another way of feeding the crocodile -- except the crocodile was ignoring you (or pursuing other prey) before you put dinner on the table.
A buddy of mine is an art-major College Student of African Heritage, and left-leaning politics.
He was super duper excited to see Barry break away from Hillary, and give McCain the spanking we all kind know he deserved.
But it was only months later he admitted to me he had voted fro "George W. Brown", and was not pleased with how things were going.
He was still glad it got young people involved in politics, which i'd also agree would be a good thing, but I'm with you, Tam. I suspect more youth will instead flick the news channel back over to the cartoon network. And instead put their feet up and spark up a fatty rather than bother with the polling lines in November.
And of course being a mid-term, that even more a kiss-of-death for the 18-25 Demo. I'm betting 90% of them won't even know there's an election on that Tuesday.
Great, now all I can think of are scruffy winged monkeys with mocha lattes and those gawd awful fur topped boots.
When I was 19 and in college, the thing I was most impressed by was the echoing world-stupidity of most of my classmates. They were completely clueless about how the world actually works, and would defend the most ridiculous propositions using the flimsiest of pseudo-logic. There's a reason that a certain style of argument is known as "sophomoric" ...
I would not be at all surprised this fall to see that a large majority of college students are clueless enough to swallow Barry Lackwit's swill about how "the Establishment is still blocking us" and "the job isn't done yet, we need to do more," and again vote en masse for his fascisti.
I'm sorry to say that while the college kids and urban hipsters who were some part of putting Obama over the top, the real power behind the ascension is still in place- the media, new and old.
Perhaps gun- and rightist-blog readers are aware of what damage is being done, but most Americans don't follow this stuff.
Instead, they're still hearing how it's the conservatives, Republicans, Tea Partiers, and their fellow travelers who are the ones creating the obstruction and damaging the delivery of the "rights" of the proletariat.
The power of the message still trumps that of little, fickle voting blocs.
The message is still going to be the same, and just as overwhelming as it was in '06 and '08.
When I was a freshman in college, I voted for Ronald Reagan. I have become considerably more conservative / libertarian since then.
He did the same whine to the Hispanic caucus when he was stumping for health care. I think it was almost word-for-word, even.
1000 days, today, until we have a new President.
Never underestimate the stupidity of people, especially if they are college educated.
I'm with Tam. Barry's losing his luster faster that a fifteen dollar gold Rolex watch.
Face it, he's just not a leader. The whole healthcare thing- really wasn't him. He just let Pelosi and Reid do the work for him.
It seems Barry would prefer to be the king of a constitutional monarchy. He loves the public appearnces, the fawning interviews, setting an overall agenda, living the good life. But he really doesn't like to do the down and dirty work of an executive. Instead, he farms such stuff out to others (Pelosi and Reid).
But that don't work here, and so he's seen as weak. And that he is. Stalin or Mao he isn't. And whatever happens to our country in the next few years, election or revolution, I am sure that Barry will not be the leader.
wv- flamitz: what some folks will do to this post.
Somehow I suspect all those college students, who have their BA or BS and all the others in that 18-25 bracket and are now saying "Do you want fries with that?" everyday at the only job they were able to find after graduating, aren't going to be too eager to vote for the person who promised them hope and change and magical unicorns.
There'll be holdouts, but quite a few people joined us in reality over the past year.
It's amusing watching all the OBAMA '08 stickers disappear off cars-- look, there's a bumper sticker shaped spot on your bumper that ain't faded... kinda obvious, fella.
The pessimist in me thinks the R's will sweep back into power just in time for all the SHTF and therefore catch all the blame for it.
IIRC, the flying monkeys were required to serve the evil witch through some sort of blackmail or curse or some such - that is, they were forced to serve her. Same with the green-faced soldiers.
When the witch melted, the monkeys (and soldiers) were set free from their bondage and returned to their home countries.
In other words, the flying monkeys did not want to be there in the first place, and served only under duress. May the same realization of freedom occur to the collegiate crowd in November, as the monkeys had when the witch melted.
