How to get shot by the cops.

One sure way to get shot by the cops is, when asked for your ID by Johnny Law, to reply by yelling "You want to see my ID? Here's my ID," and whipping out a gat.
Romero was pronounced dead on arrival at Lutheran Hospital. In his backpack, police found a loaded .44 revolver, a gallon-size bag of marijuana, and two wallets that belonged to other people, stuffed with cash. Police sources say he has 10 prior arrests, including seven felonies, on his record.

Somebody should have told that guy that guns are illegal in NYC.

If everything went down as reported in the article, then mad props to Officers Kelleher and Hayes. That's some fast thinking to tie up a revolver's hammer at bad breath distance, and equally quick thinking on the part of Hayes to move to where she had a clear line-of-fire before shooting the goblin. Apparently she fired only one round, scored a vital hit, and didn't perforate any scenery or innocent bystanders. Nice shootin', Tex.

Chalk up another one for the good guys. Unfortunately the brady bunch will add it to statistics that favor their agenda.

Another good way to get shot is not to do what the officer tells you to do. I had a student in my concealed-carry class ordered to take it because of a brandishing firearm charge. He waved his gun at another motorist who pissed him off, then when the other guy called the cops and they stopped him, he went brain dead. Cop is yelling "roll down the window" on his tint-dark drugmobile and he sits there like a lump until they open the door and yank him out. They could easily have shot first. Ain't no cure for stupid.

The Super Blackhawk is obviously the weapon of choice for discriminating unlicensed pharmacists.

Amen on the good shoot! Sadly, she will now deal with that for a while... ON the positive side, she saved her partner!

That'll do it every time. Oddly enough, waving a gun in my face would probably have a similar effect, and I'm not even a cop.

Good thinking by both Officers and fine shooting. Glad they're both OK.

If I may add a bit of snark, that kind of shooting is damn near miraculous by NYPD standards.
I've got several friends on the force and consistently out shoot all...and I'm nothing special.

When I was growing up, neighbor's son was a NYS Trooper and did damn near the same thing by grabbing the cylinder of the revolver pointed at him. He managed to get the weapon away and subdue the bad guy. It must have been back in the late 70's-early 80's. Smart, fast, lucky and tough. Damn fine combo.

A predictable comment on the Gothamist story:

FIRST OF ALL...NONE OF YOU PEOPLE KNOW HIM THAT WAS MY BEST FRIEND. HE WOULDN'T HARM ANYONE UNLESS HE FELT HE WAS BEING HARMED. THEY HAVE CHANGED THIS STORY 50 TIMES. THE WITNESS THAT SAID THAT BULL ON 71ST STREET IS A LAIR AND THAT'S WHY HE DIDN'T SHOW IS NAME. MIKE IS HUMBLE PERSON AND HE JUST GOES ABOUT HIS BUSINESS. HE WOULDN'T HURT ANYONE. I KNOW HIM. I BET THEY DIDN'T IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AS OFFICERS. WHERE IS THE SKETCH OF THE PROFILE HE SUPPOSEDLY FIT?? IF THE GUN WAS ALREADY DOWN CAUSE THE COP CLAIMS HE JAMMED THE GUN THAN WHY DID SHE SHOT HIM??? AND NOT TRY TO JUST TAKE HIM DOWN ANOTHER WAY. WHEN HE WAS DOWN THEY RAN UP TO CUFF HIM WHEN WITNESSES SAY HE WAS ODVIOUSLY UNCONSCIOUS. THEY USED EXCESSIVE FORCE. THE PERSON THAT ALSO SAID HE SAW MIKE BUYING CIGARETTES IS A LAIR TOO. HE HATES CIGARETTES WITH A PASSION. HE WOULDN'T BUY THEM FOR HIMSELF OR ANYONE ELSE EITHER. HE HATED THEM...YOU PEOPLE ARE SAYING WHAT YOUR SAYING BECAUSE HE WASN'T ANYONE TO YOU. SHE'S A MUDERER. TO HELL WITH THAT B***H COP..SHE DESERVES TO BE SHOT!!! 23RD STREET IS WHERE HE'S FROM...HE WAS A GOOD MAN AND HELPED EVERYONE..SO DON'T SPEAK ON SOMEONE YOU DON'T KNOW!! R.I.P WOLF AKA MIKE MUMBLES..YOU WILL BE MISSED AND NEVER EVER FORGOTTEN..“NOW I’M TROUT” I LOVE U WOLF

The two guns, the pound of weed, the two wallets not belonging to him, and the ten previous arrests notwithstanding, of course.

A regular pillar of the commun'ty wan't he??

Just think about it as some bleach in the gene pool. Not doing what the nice officer tells you when you know you're wrong should be painful.

We really need to make weed and guns legal to take the wind out of the sails of people like that before they get shot.

"We really need to make weed and guns legal..."

That still leaves the "other people's wallets" problem, and I am not in favor of making them legal.

Is that Super Blackhawk missing its ejector rod and housing?

Point of order, if I was the Johnny stopping the BG, I would be out of the car. Not an easy deployment exercise if the BG decides to ramp up the activity by pulling a weapon. Just not good tactics. Sheet metal doesn't stop incoming fire very well.

And, no doubt, the "other people's guns" problem and the "soon to be other people's weed" problem.

"People like that" get the wind taken out of their sails only *when* they get shot. Good on the coppers on this one.

No, and neither am I. But "amateur pharmacist" and "amateur firearms dealer" are a lot more lucrative than "amateur IRS agent", I suspect. Little Bobby Rotten here might not have gotten his start without the added incentive. (And, yeah, some people are just crooked.)

We still oughtta make guns and dope legal.
