Waiting for the dishwasher to finish up before going to run some errands, I'm reloading Alan's blog over and over to see the different pictures he uses for the header. (Even though he has them all on one page linked in his sidebar...)
I think the one with the torpedo tubes is my favorite.
I am such a dork.

I want to know what the Russian says on that picture. Probably the torpedo equivalent of the 4 rules.
With what happened to the Kursk, it probably isn't a reminder to open the outer door before you fire.
Alan is a really good photographer!
Tam, you haven't lived until you've dived a torpedo tube to check for ingested foreign objects after a shot, and then had the hatch closed on you while you're in the tube with just a flashlight.
Number 62 is the New Jersey.
It looks a lot like the North Carolina which is down here in Wilmington, NC. The most obvious (visible) difference would be the many modernisation upgrades that the NJ went through and the NC missed. No tomahawks on the NC.
The last destructive fling for the NC was a waterfront restaurant in Wilmington. She got a little out of hand when they were trying to guide her into her (then) new berth. She side swiped the restaurant and took it out. I guess she just wanted to show them she still had a little fight in her.
Agreed! I love Alan's header photos.
Could have fooled me on the BB. I thought the bow looked wrong for an Iowa. I was thinking Alabama or NC. My favorite is the one at the top, with the McNamara's lace on the wheels of the throttle valves, unless they are bow and stern plane wheels, which seems unlikely.
Nerd, sure. I'll even give you geek. But definitely not dork.
