Life skills they don't teach at the Y...

Blogger Matthew, at "Straight Forward In A Crooked World", is running a fascinating series of posts he calls "Dark Arts For Good Guys", based on his experiences in some of the less pleasant corners of the globe. It's good reading, even if you plan on staying safely on the suburban pavement stateside.

I found my way there yesterday via Hellinahandbasket. I must say, it was quite an interesting read, and sucked me right in until I was able to read through all of the series. I look forward to seeing the rest of the series.

It's like Burn Notice threw up all over, in a good way. Good stuff.

A sister and her hubby were doing a white guilt vacation in Haiti years ago, trying to help the locals. They had one of their periodic revolts, with sister and hubby being caught in the midst of it, way back in the sticks. They finally got out okay, but saw people being hacked up and necklaced while making their way out. They quit going to third world countries after that.
