Gone shootin'...

Off to the range. My glacially slow splits ain't going to reduce themselves, you know.

And dammit for that being one thing that is just impossible to improve via dry fire and the ammo drought still being in full effect.

I need to work on recoil management and being able to track my sights; the former isn't going to get a lot better unless I start getting serious about working on my grip strength, either.

The "grip" exercisers, the ones you squeeze can help a bit.

I also take a pair of ten pound plates and just hold onto them for about 30 seconds (they have slight edges so I can get a teeny bit of finger purchase, plus, being that its two, they slip against one another)

Depending on arm strength, another thought is, if you have a fixed point such as a basement support post, wrap a towel around it and grasp said towel, leaning slightly backwards.

Have fun.

I went after work yesterday and took all three of my 9mm (Sigma, CZ 75B and XD-9).

I only did boring slow fire across a chronograph because I was testing various reloads.

Still getting tumbling with the Lee cast 120gr trunc cone out of all but the Sigma. I've tried sized .356 to so big I can barely get them in the case. Going to look for a round nose mold to try.

Also a bit disappointed at velocity with max load of Accurate No. 5 with a 115gr per Accurate's data. Not even making 1100 fps. I am matching factory velocity using it under 124gr projectiles.

Met the wife after for a dinner date then when we got home I did something I almost ever do. Cleaned all three. I typically let things go quite some time without cleaning.

It's been ages since I had the Sigma out. I'd forgotten how stiff its trigger is. It is otherwise capable of stellar accuracy.....if you can manage that trigger.

Now I'm realizing I've not had a revolver day in awhile. I'm thinking I may have to put the collection on some sort of shoot and clean schedule to give them all proper attention :)

Or maybe get one of those grippy-balls, that you can keep in the purse/coat pocket, and squeeze when your stress levels require you do something with your hands (other than choking some S.O.B. out who, while deserving it, would only draw attention, and get you talked about....) A tennis ball wouldn't work, you'd bust it.... £B^D}

Have fun at the range you luck girl. I get to mow and then go to work.

Some people have all the luck.

Nothin' builds grip strength like grippin' a Glock. About a box a day, and in a month the difference will be astounding. More astounding of course, would be finding a box a day of range rounds. :(

Tam,
Any idea what has happened to James Wesley Rawles of survivalblog? His website has been down since the second or third of July.
He quotes from your blog frequently.

I've found that one of those solid pink rubber balls is a good start for grip strength. I've also taken a 1.5" dowel about 3 or 4 feet long, drilled a hole through at the mid point, threaded about 4 to 5 feet of clothes line through the hold, tied it off and then tied the line to a couple of weight plates. Reel it up and reel it down. Popeye arms are a possibility if you over do it.

Speaking of Popeye arms Vanderboegh says I'm going to look like a fiddler crab if I keep this up.

Stick, rope & rock, roll it up roll it down. If it gets to easy get a bigger rock. Saw that in a move a long time ago.

Thanks for the update, Tam!

I'm hating the ammo drought. Qualifications are coming up and I've written off qualifying with any other firearm except my Glock. (I can't score any ammo at a reasonable price except for 9mm.)

Tam, I use a Gripmaster for grip strength. I started out with a very light version and kept using it until I could fully compress it with it finger before moving up to the next level.

Gladorn, where can you find 9mm at any price?

I'm using this amazing new grip-strength building device I found. It's called the Lee Hand Loader.
