Beautiful. The big wheel guns, like certain cars and watches are destined to be classics of an age of timeless design, materials, workmanship...and function.
Very nice. I've a brace of 1917 S&W's, one about 90-95%, another....less so. Both are excellent shooters, dispite the half-moon front sights and hog-wallow rears. I seem to be favoring the de-buged technology of wheel guns as I get older....
Almost makes me wish I hadn't divested myself of my 57s (4 inch and 6 inch, both pinned and the old S&W deep blue) but I considered them a novelty caliber (which doesn't 'splain why I carry a 10...). Plus, because of their condition and age, I was offered real money for them, so I converted them into stuff I shoot more. Still miss 'em, though.
Agreed on IDPA's beclowning; I can shoot my 5" 625 everywhere but there - its barrel is .80" too long for approval by The Lords of the Rule Book.
Speaking of N-Frames: I just gave my Nephew a Highway Patrolman to use as his Nightstand Gun. Sad thing is, since the Navy sent his Unit Home from Afghanistan (he's EOD) a month ago, he HAS to Live in Kalifornia. So where he was carrying REAL M4s and could call in an Air Strike if needed, he now has to protect his Family with a Wheel Gun.
So for the next 2 years, his AR is Vacationing at my Home, while a .357 Lever Gun is backing up his Smith.
Sad. But Thank God Smith and Wesson made a weapon decades ago he can bet his life on.
"he now has to protect his Family with a Wheel Gun"
This reads like it's a bad thing. CA's Draconian laws aside I don't have to deal with that nonsense and often rotate wheelguns into house duty.
Although as I've gotten older I do tend to load with .38s vs .357s because I admit the latter will be exceedingly unpleasant indoors.
All the stuff in the .38 class (9mm and .380 included) tend to make a higher pitched ka-pow over the boom of a .45 auto or .44 special (and I suspect Tam's .41 tends to the lower pitch).
I never thought I'd become report sensitive but I find I fatigue less shooting an hour of .45 vs an hour of 9mm. I blame old age.
Les, a good shooter with a .357 revolver and lever-action, motivated by defense of home and family, should be more than a match for the typical gangbanger with an AK and a Hi-Point. And in a better world, he'd be able to keep the AK and turn the Hi-Point into a barbecue lighter.

That raht thar is purty.

Nice background staging too. :)
-chaz-
Very Nice, even though I have no personal love of wheel guns.
And I see what you did there...
GATuitous. Heh, good one. heve to remember that.
I've used the second half of Obi Wan's quote many times to refer to wheelguns :)
You ought to get that one out and run it in SSR a bit.

That picture makes Farmer Frank smile.
rremington,
Nah, it's Mag-Na-Ported. ;)
Got a four-inc M57 in nickel.
Sweet action, very accurate.
And a three inch M657. Like it
enough to tolerate the infernal
internal lock.
Need to round up some more .41
LSWCs and load some more ammo.
"it's Mag-Na-Ported"
Which IIRC disqualifies it from IDPA. Oh well, still purty.
Makes me want to take the the 28-2 along on my next range trip. But I need to focus on the XD-9 for an upcoming night match.
Purty is right! :-)
Scott J,
"Which IIRC disqualifies it from IDPA."
It's things like that that beclown IDPA (even though it's an unintended consequence of the way the rules were written.)
"Wouldn't want anyone competing with a gun they actually carry!" ;)
Beclown indeed. Have you read the new rule book yet?
I have to set aside the time to wade through its legaleaze because I'm going to take the SO class in November.
Never thought I'd take that step but our club needs more SOs badly.
Help us, Snarki-Tam Kenobi! Only you can save us!
Now that's just too pretty, right there. And bonus points for quoting the real Obi-Wan and not that poser that came along in later, less-cool sequels.
AAAWW YEAH ! MOUSTACHE AND THE 70s! :)))
That's lovely. And in a great caliber too.
Which is to say, I love it when anyone manages to make my 10mm hardware feel somewhat mainstream. ;)
But it's a darn nice piece. And way less unwieldy than the N frame I've got, a 629 with a 47.5" barrel.

Is there anything quite as pretty as a 4" partial underlug N frame with a nice set of wood grips?
They're just a pleasure to behold.
Long Live N-Frames I have a Model 58, Model 629 3 inch and a Classic Hunter 6 inch

Oh yeah. That's it. Keep em coming.
Well, gosh darn it, Tam. I'm going to have to post my own response later on today. Thanks for giving me something to do this afternoon...
I'll be in my bunk.
Ted is assessed a geek cross-series foul.
I'm thinking that would carry a bit better than my 7.5" .41 Redhawk, and look a lot better at the same time.

looks a lot like my 4" model 29. :)
Mag-Na-ported N-frame .41 Magnum with "Secret Service" grips planned.
Heh, it's like finding my old Guns & Ammo issues from high school. . . just needs a Magna-trigger ring setup. . . [grin]
That's one helluva piece. I kid you not.
