In retrospect, I'm not sure we had any idea what the Leather Daddy costumed guy was supposed to be. A motorcycle guy, maybe? "What's that thing hanging out of his back pocket, Edna?"
I'm guessing maybe flyover country was happy to see clean cut young men who didn't have long hair like hippies, singing about such wholesome institutions as the Navy and the Young Men's Christian Association.
