Wanna buy a hoodie?

For those interested in owning the possessions of a deranged serial-killing technophobic hermit, the assorted paraphernalia of The Unabomber is to be sold at online auction in order to generate funds for the bazillions in restitution due his victims.

I find it deliciously ironic that the world's most infamous (and pathological) luddite will have, at least vicariously, a gold star feedback rating on eBay.

I had one indirect Unabomber connection. He is a neighbor of mine, so to speak, down the highway at the federal prison complex outside Florence, Colorado.

A few years ago, entering the Florence P.O., I bumped into a friend of mine, a professor studying various kinds of radical groups. He was in town with an editor of the Earth First! newspaper. She was interviewing Ted Kaczynski. My friend had hoped to tag along, but Kaczynski refused to see him.

The three of us, plus my wife, got together afterwards. The EF! editor referred to Kaczynski's "unique campaign of direct action," and I had to bite my tongue until I was outside, where I could tell my wife, "I haven't heard such pure Stalin-speak since the 1970s."

Una's brother lived on Terlingua Ranch for a couple of years. A weird guy in his own right, but apparently quite harmless. Ultra-liberal dude. When the news broke, media folks were all excited about the "connection".
