Obsession.
The capacity for the human mind to focus upon a goal and pursue it with single-minded determination is amazing. Given free reign, it is this tendency towards obsession that makes great things happen: Everest is climbed. The South Pole is reached. The Atlantic is flown solo. Diseases are conquered and devices are invented. And sometimes the same obsession goes a bit wonky and model battleships thirty feet long are built.

Those two more years of work estimated for completion had better include getting working guns on it. If you're going to build a battleship model that size you should at least be able to go around sinking canoes.
And if the canoes shoot back, will he be obsessed enough to scuttle it to keep it out of enemy hands?
And will the harbor be a scale replica of Montevideo harbor as well? ;)
The dual purpose guns are being loaded with what appears to be 22 Hornet ammo.
Scaling the 280mm main guns gives about .55 cal.
It should be possible to cram 3 contenders in 50/70 into each main turret.
When does the season on waverunners open?
I was about to ask whether those are .22 Hornet. Guess I know now.
I thought there was a group that fought model ships (?)
I recollect having heard of them once, might have to go surfin'...

And here I thought my vacaction chock-full of power-napping was a big accomplishment. Coolness.
I bet somebody had a fun morning once when they stumbled into the kitchen for that first cup of joe, stared out the window, and found a pocket battleship bearing down on their summer lake house.
It's a neat model. Beats hell out of my 1:1 scale marzipan voodoo effigy of the Fonz.
Stuff like this is very useful for reminding my wife that there are worse things than collecting Mosins.

Imagine sitting on the porch one hung over morning at the lake place and having this thing ghost in and out out of morning haze.
And for those of you with dreams of mounting real guns... I too have a dream... a real time radar/optical fire control system for that puppy.
Now, who'll build us a model of the USS Pennsylvania in this scale?
At the LA scout camp in San Pedro, there's a model of Old Ironsides. She's made from the original plans, with hand steamed beams, etc. WOW!

That is not "going wrong". That is going right in almost every way possible.
The only thing I can think of that would be cooler would be if someone did a scale reconstruction of an old ship of the line with mini black powder cannons.

Ha ha ha. That's pretty neat. But if 'ol boy really wanted to have a good time he ought to stick a 150+ horsepower inboard and really tear some stuff up.
That thing weighs 700 pounds. 150 horses would get it (1) airborne, and (2) upside down.
Be fun for the first few seconds, though.
