So true...

Go read NewJovianThunderbolt's ruminations on the phenomenon of "Metrocons".
You can read National Review Online for months without seeing a reference to the 2nd amendment. Longer if no 2A cases work their way through the court system. Only one or two contributors shoots a self-defense handgun regularly or has in the past. And it is hard to blame them. By definition they LIVE in the city. And the 2 cities they live in are NY and DC. Neither are known for having lots of places to practice with your boomstick. Or having a boomstick in your house/apartment.

Looks like he hulled Quasi-Con George Will right there. Although I'd been subliminally aware of the phenomenon, I'd never really put my thoughts to words like that before. Now I don't have to.

We don't have any allies in the media, in this Class War.

I disagree, unless you exclude specialty publications and programs from your definition of "media."

wv: implo. Really. What Skeddadle Mayor McCheese did when the city lawyer wrote to the Second amendment Foundation admitting that the city gun ban was unenforceable...

(Addendum: Admittedly, not all specialty publications or programs are on board.)

wv: irided. Before I derided...

You'd be surprised how many people respond to a reasoned argument, if it's presented by someone they believe is a decent person. It's really easy for homo-self-styled-sapiens to demonize an argument/person they don't know, and have no personal contact with.

I've personally converted a lot of women to the idea that guns can be fun. Women in the metro DC area who you'd assume are anti-gun. They weren't really anti-gun, they'd only been exposed to the anti-gun propaganda, it was all they knew.

Explain that women have better fine muscle control than men, start them out properly, and get them used to the idea that this is a skill that they can excel at, and all of a sudden, the questions change from: "Is this safe? I thought only men compensating for penis size did this?" To "When can we go shooting again, and when can I do this on my own."

You have to understand, as an instructor - even an informal instructor - there comes a time when you have to let go, and let the student come to an understanding of their own. We're bring up people to be more self-reliant, and that means they won't do things exactly the way we would.

Simple: one of us just has to work hard enough and write well enough to become a regular contributor.

I'd bet that many a rural one-gun conservative doeesn't think about gun control issues very often.

George Will? IIRC, it was during the first Clinton term that he opined in a column that the Second Amendment did indeed mean what the NRA said it meant. He concluded that we should eliminate it as not appropriate to modern society (or some such blather).

True, true.

Although the "God, Guns, and Guts" stickers are a little thicker in rear-window-gun-rack country, causing the issue to be at least a little more on people's radars.
