On the difference between "nerd" and "geek"...
A geek(ette) uses solder and brass tubing instead of scotch tape.

Look, if you can't fix it with brass tube and solder, it probably doesn't need fixing quite so badly.
(That said I've also got a thing for finely milled repair parts, but vive la difference, no?)

Oh, my... I had NO idea your roomie was into older tech. My only question is why doesn't she mention slide rules on her blog header?

I just wish my all-metal 6" utility-grade slipstick hadn't been in the toolbox that got nipped from my olllld place long ago.
RX, I always preferred bamboo over metal for sliderules. The action feels smoother. Mine is a Post 1460 Versalog.
It was a toolbox edition, after all. I've never owned a better one than that; all my others are plastic.
