Today In History: Wrong target.

Ah, Mark Chapman; three feet to the right and you could have been a hero.

Don't you mean "20 years earlier"?

As Glenn Reynolds would say, "Heh."

We lost the first member of our Korean basic class at the Defense Language Institute when one of the Airmen in the class had a nervous breakdown when John Lennon was murdered.

That's uncalled for. The Rubber Ono Band is a wonderful, all natural, non-chemical substitute for ipecac.

Why are people so enamored with dead commies like Che and Lennon? If only more of them died early deaths...

Or:
"That's why I don't believe in God; five bullets into John and NONE into Yoko??"

Why would he want to be a hero? A working-class hero is nothing to be.

Me: "Honey, this happened many years ago: A Mark Chapman, had he shot a metre to the right, he'dve been a hero."
Wife: "Who? Who did he shoot?"
Me: "John Lennon."
Wife: "Who?"
Me: "John Lennon!"
Wife: "Who's that?"
Me: "Sigh."

She's sooo young.

Mark Chapman's thoughts as he pulled the trigger: "Damn, She moved!"

Lennon's Last thoughts: "Damn, She moved!"

May have been aiminmg for the obnoxious one. Shows the value of practice. Speaking of which, any chance of doing some bambi hunting this season, Tam?

A grenade would have solved three problems. T.Stahl you are a lucky man, oh what a lucky man you are.

Well, that was interesting. I had heard from people who don't like Elvis, but I've never heard from someone who didn't like Lennon, or if I did I blocked it out. I liked the Beatles, but I can't listen to them anymore. I've heard it all to many times. Yoko I never got. Probably cause she didn't make any top 40 hits.

DirtCrashr, why exactly?

If there is a heaven, it must have a hell of a band.

At least Lennon's last thoughts were of his wife. His last words as the bullets hit were "Oh No!" [/rimshot]

I remember that day quite clearly. Solidarity was fighting for survival and there was a short blurb on that on the news followed by 28 min of BS about the death of some washed up has been low talent hippy twit.

That and endless replays of his nihlistic gobbledygook drivel entitled "Imagine".

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate all the Beatles. once Ringo married Barbra Bach he was like a god to me, and George did (indirectly) inspire one of my all time favorite songs ("Layla").
