I don't know what the cost of equipment damaged to get that shot was.. but it was worth it.

Where I work (Sea Launch), we have cameras about 10 FEET from the pad. They're enclosed in a 1/2" thick steel enclosure with a 2" thick abalative coating, and a two layer borosilicate glass window. The outer window usually gets trashed, but generally the inner window stays intact.
