Some stuff from back when I still owned single-action Rugers...
L to R: A dual-cylinder Vaquero in .38-40 and 10mm Auto (aka the "Space Cowboy"), a .44 Magnum Bisley Vaquero, a .32 H&R Magnum Single Six, an Old Model Bearcat, and an Old Model Single Six with both cylinders.

But you're a Smith & Wesson kinda gal now, right?
Let's say that I have sharpened my focus since those days.
It's not that I don't like Rugers or single action wheelguns, it's just that the number of guns is infinite, dollars are finite, and I do have preferences.
Back when? Oh no! Just think, someone is probably hammering nails with that beautiful Bisley Vaquero. Oh, the horror!
Real Gun Collectors know how to prune their collections. I'm not a real collector. I'm a pack rat. I have about as much focus as Caleb at a SHOT Show. This is no more evident than by the fact that I've narrowed down my next purchase to a choice between a modern, hi-cap 9mm, a .50 cal. flintlock kit, an AR clone, or a 1911 DIY project. Who knows, I might buy that '61 Springfield replica instead....or whatever else looks better the day I walk into the store.
Or maybe I'll buy a- Ooh, a penny!
TJP, just the figure of speech gives me shivers. I had a buddy in Mass., ex-Ranger, who kept a broomhandle Mauser he'd taken off a supposed friend to keep him out of mischief. It had been used as a hammer...
My collection is mostly bubba=ized bolt action military rifles. Though wounded and deformed, all are functional, and ready for service. Of course there are some items that no collection should be without. A single action revolver is just such a tool, though for serious social work my .45ACP revolver is much superior.
Threads like this make my wallet happy that I am an accumulator and not a collector. One or two representatives of each basic type that interest me is quite sufficient for me. Yes, yes, I know. I'll be in the corner with the other Philistines. ^_^
"I'll be in the corner with the other Philistines."
???
Dude, it's a free country.
For me, I just realized that I wasn't really using the SA Rugers, and they could be turned into S&W revolvers or 1911's that I would make use of.
I don't think there's anything "Philistine" about liking a lot of different kind of guns, just like there's nothing particularly snooty about narrowing one's purchases down. Right?
Oh, so many wheelguns, so little cash. It's funny(?) to think back to my first handgun purchase in 1990 at the age of 22, a new 4" S&W model 19. At the time, it was a very inexpensive, utilitarian gun within reach of a starving student. The new Glocks, Brens, and S&W semi 10mm's were all the rage. With kids and a mortgage, I wish I could have that smith back, at THAT price... didn't know how good I had it. Nice box of Rugers!
That's funny. I divested of my Ruger SA wheelguns a few years back as well.
They're great guns and all, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather have a 60 year old Colt Official Police with some history behind it than a sterile stainless SBH.
Not that there's anything *wrong* with a stainless SBH, mind you.
But as you said, money's finite. And I turned my stainless SBH into not one but two old Colts...
I LIKE the good old Ruger single actions. They're hell for stout, and they're extremely accurate.
But they lack some soul. Maybe if my custom Super Blackhawk didn't have an aluminum ejector rod housing, I wouldn't feel that way. But WTF, Bill?
Alright, collecting aside. How does the 10mm Single Action pistol feel? I mean I can already feel my gimped wrist strong hand stinging! LOL!
Dude, it's a free country.
Tam, it was a joke. Smile. :)
smiths and colts are really nice, But i really use my ruger single action for hunting than anything else. Big Bore Bisleys for ever!!!
