I'm still not up to generating the post about how awesome my pseudo-instructor experience was at the range yesterday (HINT: If you want all the RO's to come over and tell you what an awesome instructor you are, pick Annie Oakley for a student. It makes you look good.)
Also, the Sunday Smif will be along shortly.
In the meantime, strange heretical thoughts have been wandering through my mind about converting my 1911's into K-frame Smiths. I don't know what it says about me that, years into this game, if I was going to pick up one of my guns and make the bazillion-dollar shot cold, it would be with a Smith revolver, shooting double-action, and not one of my kilobuck custom 1911's.
Anyhow...
Getting ready to go to teh blogmeet at the Brewpub. More later.

Ifn you don't want one of those superfluous 1911s, I can help you out by taking one off your hands.
Unfortunately for us, you know what those 1911's you've got are worth. No corvettes in a garage for us here. SIGH. Keep us posted.
My local range and gunshop just convinced me to buy a Smith 625-9, .45 Colt with 4 inch barrel and adjustable sights, new in box, that had been sitting too long on the shelf. Just ordered speed strips, and looking at holster options.
Ya know, since Obama's election, I'm at +7 on my number of guns.
Wow... whatever happened to the Tams from once upon a time who had One of Everything?
I'm thinking it must be the juju emitted by all those old Smiths around. Ya can't trust them, you know. They spin backwards. All that widdershins is addling your mind, and turning your eyes from The One True Browning.
Repent, sinner!
*snicker* :)
Huh. I'll believe more blogposting today when I see it. :-D
Have fun & wish I were there.
Tam,
Would a 10-7 with 2" barrel in .38spl be of interest? It's a nickel-plated belly gun with a bull barrel. First gun I bought after coming back from vietnam in 1969.
I'm looking for a MILSURP 1911A1, ideally built in 1943 or so, ideally built by Colt, etc.
Not a race gun--a stock marine pistol.

And previously Tam was the one warning against too much Dremeling...
Well, if you're letting go of a 1911, let me know, because I'll sell some plasma to buy it.
I wish I'd been at your end of the table to hear, first hand, the story of Annie Oakley.

Awe Tam! Welcome to the dark side. Glad you're finally going along with the wheelie girl crowd. :)
My first love was a 627PC. Smith & Wesson makes a sweet wheelie.
You know who Annie Oakley's coach was, don't you.
My first thought was, "Oh noes!Theyer all goin to be gonnn!!!eleven." Then I realized that I'm not competing with you for old Smith revolvers. Besides being at nowhere near your level as a shooter, I'm not a real collector and I'm looking for a few simple, popular models (18 or pre-18; 10 or 13; maybe a 19 later on).
I read Xavier's stuff and I'm familiar with Jim March's revolver checkout. I've been reading your words for a few years. Do you have any further nuggets of wisdom you're willing to pass on about finding good, older, mechanically sound, shooter grade Smith & Wesson revolvers?
wv = "carat:" well, that's à propos.
I dunno. The only breakdown I witnessed today during two ISPC classifier runs was a Smith revo (625).
Obviously, they're crap. :)
OH OK, a CZ75 choked quite often but I'm sure it was ammo related.
Lorimor, was that CZ being fed Sellier & Bellot? 'Cause you know, you can't expect a Czech gun to work without Czech ammunition...
everybody knows that.
I love wheel guns!! But I will NEVER! be without a 1911!!! My smiths and colt wheel guns are my babys But my true love is the 1911.
Tam, every American's birthright is not a degree, it's a 1911 (or, perhaps, a 1911A1). Sell all but one.
As for the "one shot, cold, for a bazillion dollars" thing?
Oh yeah. My five inch Smith & Wesson 27 would be the pistola of choice there.
WV: Quall. It could be "qualifying" but I prefer to think that it's when you QUELL your THRALLS.
