C-c-c-c-c-cold!

Mother nature is busy reminding me that there are no terrain features much larger than a breadbox between me and central Canuckistan this morning; 58mph gusts yesterday have slowed to a mild-but-steady 19 knot breeze, which makes the ambient 12° air temperature feel like -5°F. (This equals 0mig0ditsc0ld degrees Centigrade, for you people who use those fancy imported metric numbers.)

The snow largely stayed away, and what little did fall is the consistency of diamond chips and is being blown into little piles on the windward side of everything. On the upside, I'll be able to clear the sidewalk to the garage with a broom.

Porch activities will be curtailed today by the fact that the mercury is only supposed to climb to a balmy 18°, although we may see the far side of freezing by as much as a whole degree tomorrow.

I don't worry about it too much until the two scales converge ;)

Eat a lotta soup, drink a lotta coffee and tea. Thank God for Trader Joe's Winter Blend (Vienna roast ground with cinnamon, red and green peppercorns and cloves -- totally worth the $6.99).

Look, stop spreading lies about the climate where you live. According to the UN, which relies on PEER-REVIEWED SCIENCE, it's the hottest day in the world since the beginning of time. And I've got thousands of sciensy scientists types (as well as a bunch of economists) who've signed a petition that they believe it, too. So there.

Now, go read Algore's poem (which is so gosh-darned brilliant that it will doubtless net him a Nobel in literature) about global warming, watch Imeme get HIS Nobel for... er... um... whatever it is he's done to deserve it... and stop looking at that thermometer, because the data you're getting from it hasn't been homogenized OR gone through any quality control, and so it's wrong. Wrong, wrong, WRONG!

I couldn't read two stanzas of the Goracle's poem without a little part of me dying inside. I think it was the part that deals with the abuse of the English language, but it's hard to say because it's dead now.

Chilly here, too. Hardly got to 70F, yesterday.

We haven't had too much wind, but the lows have been getting down to -5 at night, and the highs haven't cracked 20 for a week.

I'm sick of winter, and technically it hasn't even started yet!

"being blown into little piles on the windward side of everything. "

You must live in a alternate universe or something- here on Earth, Snow tends to be blown clear of the windward sid of things, and piles up on the leeward side, where the wind drops it, in big "drifts" .....

It took me a couple of hours to shovel away those drift thingies that formed in the lee of my garage and cars....

Well, there are, but they're a long way away in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and there's another big lake in the way, so you get no real benefit.

Something like that. ;)

According to Google, the wind chill this morning was -20.6C (the ambient was -11.1C.)

Put out the garbage and ran the flag up the pole this AM in northern Illinois in my short sleeved golf shirt sans jacket. I love the winter. It's hard to do donuts in the cul-de-sac in summer and power sliding half the way to office is pert near impossible in any other season. Saturday is supposed to be 32, guess I'll wash the car.
