Mary Jo Kopechne's killer finally called to account.

It is with a less-than-heavy heart that I awakened to the news that the Evel Knievel of Chappaquiddick, longtime foeman of my freedoms, and last withered fruit of a particularly bad crop of jumped-up Yankee wannabe-aristocrats that infested our government, has finally gone on to whatever reward awaits him.

As an added bonus, I will probably not have to hear anything about Michael Jackson for at least a week.

Is that what we're calling scions of a Irish drink smuggling empire now.

Ok, then.

And of course Dear Reader portrays him as "the greatest Senator of our time."

Yet more evidence Obama doesn't get it. (as if it were needed)

This is America, land of the arriviste; what PJ and Joe did to give Teddy's generation a still-damp set of patents don't make no nevermind.

I will not grant the runt of the Kennedy litter any grace...good riddance.

He certainly should have been held responsible for that poor girls death, but I suspect you guys hate him mainly for his gun politics and keep bringing this unrelated incident up because it's so dramatic. Enjoy.

The Irish are (wannabe) aristocrats now? Ahhh, the world is upside down.

Who put these drunkards in charge? Oh, right, the people of Massachusetts--never mind.

At least we now finally have the term limits that Democrats support.

It will be interesting to see how fast the Massachusetts legislative branch will scramble to give the governor back the power to appoint a replacement.

It was removed when John Kerry was running in 2004 and Mitt Romney was the state’s governor.

If it's not changed, there will be a gap of 145 and 160 days before an election.

:) Mike, he was scum of the earth for spearheading so many efforts to disarm law abiding citizens. Chappaquiddick simply put an exclamation point on it.

Since I've already condemned myself for gleefully celebrating his demise, I might as well get these freebies in:
"Hope it was painful"
and
"Took him long enough"
and
"Burn in Hell, Teddy"

Where does the urination line form??

On the down side, we've got about ten days of nauseating media coverage to look forward to.

Does it make me a bad person if my first response, upon hearing of Teddy's death, was a loud "WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!"

I suspect that the majority of us dislike him based upon everything he stood for. Eunice was the only decent one of that clan.
And ten days of media coverage, we'll have ten years and calls to cure cancer and they'll trot out all of his friends and colleagues to praise him. Woe for Scotland though, their exports are about to fall off here shortly.

mikeb302000 - I grew up in MA. What I really hated Ted Kennedy for was his arrogance and limitless capacity for hypocrisy. His stance on guns was part of the whole package of disregard for the Constitution and distrust of the peasantry.

He lived a lifestyle of wealth and comfort most of us can’t even imagine (through luck of birth and no talent or effort of his own). He condescendingly pretended to stick up for the “common man” because that’s were the votes are. What he really did is through up roadblocks for us in the middle class to ever dream of achieving the success his crime boss father did.

Of course it was below Kennedy to obey the rules and laws he put in place. His family moved their assets offshore to avoid draconian U.S. taxes while he railed against corporations moving offshore. Among those offshore assets is a Fiji based oil company which didn’t stop him from attacking oil company profits. He cheated his way out of Harvard and bought his way back in. And most famously, he killed a woman either intentionally or through breathtaking indifference, and got away with it.

If not for the luck of birth, Ted Kennedy would have died a lower-middle class drunk in South Boston.

Actually, to me, the most despicable Kennedy family exploit was Ambassador Joe's performance in London in 1940. Aggressively pro-Nazi, Joe urged FDR to withdraw support from the British and make peace with a Hitler-dominated Europe. If Joe K had had his way, we'd still be dealing with Nazi Europe today.

Teddy standing up and lying in the Senate about the awesome destructive potential of the mighty cop-killer military style .30-30 puts him a distant second in that family.

The local CBS affiliate, when they ran the story at 10:00 had some technical difficulty. They tried to run a commercial in the middle of the segment, but caught the error after about three seconds and kept talking about Teddy and the "incident" at Chappaquiddick Creek.

And, yes, I'd agree, I hope she gets her due.

The Place: Framingham, MA
The Time: July 1969

There I was, all of 12 years-old, sitting in my Mom's best friend's living room watching the execreble Teddy (complete with neck cuff) lying to me.
Not merely a politician: I had read enough Sam Clemens to realize that lying is a natural attribute to those who would legislate, but that it was Jack and Bobby's kid brother that was lying really bothered me.

The gun-control (ad nauseum) crap was merely the gift that kept on giving.

Bram, I owe you (and us all) a sort of apology.

Back in the Civil War, a teenaged Irish immigrant named Terence Ambrose Gillespie managed to get quite severely wounded at Fredrickberg. He made a good recovery, but always carried an eagle-headed cane as a memento.

Actually, a badge of sorts, as he went into politics and became a ward-heeler in South Boston. One of his acts as such was giving "Honey Fitz" his first liquor license, setting the Kennedys on the road to ruin.

For reference, back in Wexford the Kennedys shoveled manure in a fertilizer factory. They're still shoveling it.

Forgive me, but Terry Gillespie was my Grandmother's uncle. My Grandmother introduced Boston's future Mayor Curley to his future wife Mary, as a way to rid herself of a "pushy, shanty Irish hustler" in a too-tight brown suit.

My brother Kevin used to run Colonial Candle up in Hyannis, and has Kennedy stories that have never been told outside the tribe.

Another friend of the family, a now deceased gent named Dan Lynch, belonged to the funeral parlor Lynches, who buried all the Kennedys for generations.

He also went to Harvard with Joe Kennedy Junior, and went to lots of great parties at the Waldorf-Astoria. All he had to do was to arrainge the broads, booze, and abortions.

I could write a charming expose with tales of drugs, rape, treason, alcoholic violence, massive adultery, all compounded by the most brutal cynicism and hypocracy.

All those desperate women back during the depression, who got jobs the hard way at RKO by putting out, any time, any place, for any Kennedy passing by. Hundreds of them, from Gloria Swanson the the newest cleaning lady.

A quite unique lady I know who was a critical care nurse at Silver Springs Hospital when George Wallace was shot. Eight months pregnant, she was knocked to the floor by Ted Kennedy as he barreled towards the door. His comment? "Watch it girlie".

The terrified college girl/waitress serving Kennedy while my brother tried to have dinner a table away with some German and Dutch engineers he was working with. For reference, it was after last call, in the Duck Inn pub on Main St., Hyannis.

The kid was in tears as Teddy reached up under her skirt and mauled her repeatedly, all while bellowing for more booze.

What a swine. The world is a better place without the evil, craven, legitimately stupid bastard.

I'm not a religious person, but if I was, I'd look at what's happened to the Kennedys and suspect some kind of divine justice. The sociopathic turds disgust me, and I for one ca honestly say that the world is now a better place for the loss of a truely evil man who never in his entire life did one human thing.

It's harder to find an instance of Teddy NOT mauling the female help than the opposite.

Then again this is a guy who somehow managed to get an annulment from his wife of 30 years, presumably tossing his 3 kids into retroactive bastardy.

Cowardly Lion of the Senate is more like.

My grandfather should have lived to see this as well, he actually wrote a song about Mary Jo. He paid to have his record pressed in vinyl, with an original version on one side; and since it was the early eighties, a disco version on the b side.

'S okay, Ed, you can't help who your ancestors were.

As I've said elsewhere, the Kennedys all believe that the laws of God, man and physics don't apply to them.

Wrong. Wrong. Annnd wrong.

I decided not to blog about Ted Kennedy because I pretty much agree with what many of you have written. His womanizing, his drinking, his being above the law with regards to Mary Jo's death all ruin whatever good he might have done, and I think his gun control ideas and liberal positions were good.

I just don't get the viciousness with which some of you talk about him. That's why it sounds, in spite of some of the very convincing comments to the contrary, that you hate him for opposing your precious gun rights.

They're your gun rights, too, even if you elect not to exercise them, or choose not to believe in them, or wish to deny them to others. But you're right, why display rancor for somebody who has devoted a life of public service to dismantling the Bill of Rights? After all, this is America, and we can respect our opponents in a colleigal setting, even if they work tirelessly to crush personal liberty. I mean, at the end of the day, we're all citizens together, even the ones who'd turn the rest of us into serfs.
