There's a well-orchestrated campaign, all right...

CNN would like you to know that the foes of health care reform are using a well-orchestrated campaign of innuendo, distractions, and smear tactics to derail discussion of the President's agenda and...

LOOK! BUSH! CHENEY! TORTURE! CIA! LOOK OVER HERE!

From the first link: "The CNN Truth Squad, which fact-checks political claims, has debunked..."

That, morons, is because you have completely destroyed what little reputation you might once have had as a reliable source of anything approaching "news" on political topics.

Get used to it.

I've had this concept bouncing around in my head for a while now, but could never quite articulate it to my own satisfaction, so I just jotted down the super-mega-ultra-condensed cliffs notes version. I think the concept is clear enough though.

Government programs, peoples fears, and the end results.

Program: Income tax
Government: "TAX THE RICH!"
People: "Slippery slope...soon you'll be taxing everyone!"
Government "Oh, pooh! It's ONLY .5% levied on incomes over X amount which is only made by the top 1% of the rich. Quitcher fearmongering."
End result: You tell me.

Program: Social Security
Govt: "Guaranteed retirement money!"
People: "National ID number..mark of the beast!"
Govt: "Oh, pshaw!! Quitcher fearmongering."
End result:You tell me.

Program: Welfare (in all it's various forms)
Govt: "Safety net!"
People: "Hammock for lazies!"
Govt: "Nonsense...Quitcher fearmongering."
End result: You tell me.

Program: Healthcare (finance) reform
Govt: "Universal coverage! Healthcare for all!"
People: Higher costs. Rationing. Forced joining"
Govt: "Myths.....Quitcher fearmongering."
End result: [i]DUH!!!

Am I the only one who's opinion of the CIA goes up and the Administration down whenever I hear the list of "abuses" terrorists suffered?

Waterboarding - good. Threatened executions sleep deprivation, loud music - good, good, and more good.

Prosecuting the people who brought down terrorists and prevented attacks – really bad.

The CNN Truth Squad.

Stop, that's just TOO funny.

Seriously, what else should all of them be doing, anyway? Wait, this is CNN we're talking about.

Remember, the media types are in on the big sell, here, so when time comes, I'm hoping we'll get to see the folks at CNN get their comeuppance, live.

Phssthpok - Do you have any Tree-of-Life Root? I'm done breeding and my body doesn't like PT any more. And, it will really cut down on my healthcare costs.

Heh.

Wonder what ploy Obamacare will use to distract you from the fact that you're being denied healthcare because you're too old/ infirm/ there are others who might "benefit more"...

Nah, they're not death panels, they're compassionate, end-of-life counselling sessions. My bad.

Wonder what is distracting B Smith from the fact that so many are already denied because they can't pay for treatment, or their insurance company won't fund it. You already have 'death panels' in that sense. They are run by health insurance companies who answer to stockholders.

My own healthcare is covered by a system that does set treatment limits. My 90 year old mother will not be getting a heart transplant, but two years ago she had treatment for strokes, was in hospital for about a month, a rehabilitation centre for another month. This year she had cancer surgery and received a prosthetic eye. All funded by that socialist plot, the Canadian health care system.

It just seems to me that you need to remember that funding your health care as a 'community' doesn't make you a 'communist'. Are traffic lights a commie plot?
