Dream a little dream...

Lissa has a gun-related dream for the first time:
I very clearly remember that I had my index finger straight against the slide, safely outside the trigger guard. Four Rules, even in my SLEEP, baby!
It's cool that it wasn't one of the common panic-type ones: The gun that won't hit, or the two-zillion pound trigger, or the bullet-proof bad guy. I've only experienced a couple of those, and they were memorable enough that they're still available for playback in the Cineplex Tamarama years later.

Usually, however, I wake up from gun dreams thinking "Wow, I wish I could shoot like that in real life," because Sleep Tam is an unstoppable badass with a carbine or pistol and decisive in her actions, whereas Awake Tam is a mediocre shot with a propensity for dithering.

I'm opposite, almost every gun dream I have is malf city. Except for the ones where I get shot down, those I'm usually giving as well as I get.

Tam said...

Oh, malfs happen to Dream Tam, but she clears them so unflappably that they don't really count as a plot device int he dream, unlike the malfs that happen to Real Tam which count as a major plot device in getting spanked in a match.

Maybe this "visualization" thing is for the birds...

Yeah, yeah, but were you, um...

I look forward to Dream Lissa having her OWN gun, instead of having to borrow one!!!

Just the other night I had a dream about me running around with a Kriss and some sort of red dot sight. I simply could not miss. It was a training exercise and there were no bullets, only flashes of lights indicating you hit your target, but I was running and doing only head shots.

Even in my dream world ammo is apparently hard to come by.

Don't forget the hammer that falls in slow-motion, failing to ignite primers.

Or the .357 bullets hit where you are aiming at, but can't penetrate very far. The skin pretty much stop it and all you get is a very mad bad guy with the equivalent of a bb-gun wound. HATE those dreams.

So, was it Awake or Asleep Tam that did so well on the mover at the Awerbuck class?

I had one last night - I dreamt I was back at Purdue and for some reason, we were debating gun control in class, so they decided to search my bag. I clearly remember thinking "idiots, the gun isn't in my bag, it's in MY POCKET."

Then I woke up.

"two-zillion pound trigger"

I know that one well.

Its companion is the scenario of being attacked by a grotesquely fat assailant, and all I have is a little knife with a two-inch blade that will not penetrate the blubber!

The two zillion pound trigger dream was inspired by real life events in my life. I got a Taurus 85 that would get an extremely heavy trigger pull, but only after firing live ammo. Could not replicate problem with snap caps - could not avoid it with real ammo. Sent it back to the factory, has been perfect since (and I was out $60).

I thought I had just bought a cheap gun, and decided I would always only buy S&W revolvers. Then my model 29 had the same problem. Of course, S&W sent me a free shipping label, but I had to send it in twice and they never did fix the large gouge in the barrel where it meets the frame, that they put there when fixing the trigger issue.

My two-zillion pound trigger one had a distinctly mechanical twist: It's not that the trigger pull was all that heavy, it's that the gun had a really crappy DA-type trigger that was bottoming out against the frame without reliably breaking the shot. You'd pull the trigger all the way back and then have to wiggle it or maybe shove the hammer with your weak-hand thumb to get it to jump off the sear.

SD dreams? Mine seem to center around tactical blunders rather than firearm/ammo malfunctions.

But I am mighty tough in my dreams. Even though I get plunked square in the noggin, I fight on and drop the bad guys. (Perhaps that says more about the contents of my skull than my tenacity, I dunno.) :)

And even though I end up mostly dead, I am still conscious of my now deceased condition and view the scene from above. People are generally sad but Clint Smith is there, seemingly consoling me with, "You dumbass Squid! I told you to MOVE! Didn't I?"

Must be nice. Dream Ogre can't hit a goddamn thing, and then usually can't find cover or concealment, and then gets his hand stuck in his pocket trying to get loose rounds out to reload magazines with. (Because I never have more than one.) Never had the zillion pound trigger, but I have missed the guy I was shooting at from 2 feet away.

I think my subconscious may be unsatisfied with how prepared I am.

And I don't for once believe the "mediocre shot" bit.

i've had the two-zillion pound trigger dream, but not as frequently as i have the stuck safety dream. it causes me to go all GRR LAURA SMASH and pistol whip my dream assailant.

and that's just plain messy.

In my dreams, I'm generally the unstoppable killing machine. I do, however, have a semi-recurring dream where I'm firing a weapon (type and style varies) and I accidently hit a previously unseen button or lever. At that point, the whole weapon just comes apart. At the worst time, of course.

I had one dream where I was in a motel with the Mrs. and two thugs were trying to kick the door down. I went into my suitcase to retrieve trusty 1911....to find it perfectly field stripped in the pistol case.

So there I was racing to re assemble my gun into a useful configuration chanting "O-SHIT-O-SHIT-O-SHIT-O-SHIT!"

Fun one that was!

Back in the day, we use to train with blanks / bfa's / and MILES equipment on a regular basis.

The M16A2 was kind of sensitive to the elements with normal ammo. With low-powered blanks it failed every 5 rounds or so.

So, I constantly had the "f*cking rifle doesn't work and we are under attack" dream. In '91 I loaded my Humvee with Law's, grenades, and once Iraqis started surrendering, AK's. Just in case.

My first pistol was a stunningly crappy choice: A Beretta 70S in .380. Magazines were hard to find and expen$ive, so I tried a cheap aftermarket one. The first time at the range with it I chambered the first round and fired...the bottom plate weld on the cheapo mag failed, and the remaining rounds defecated themselves straight out onto the floor followed by the spring and follower.

Needless to say, most of my recurrent nightmares center on the disintegrating-pistol phenomenon.

The remainder are squib-load nightmares where you can actually see the bullet leaving the barrel, and plopping onto the ground in front of me.

Betcha the Freudian anti-gunners have a field day with interpreting these.

I am so glad I was never in anxiety dream combat. Anxiety dream school and anxiety dream court were bad enough.

Funny- some of what have been the most infuriating/challenging/scary experiences never get dreams at all.

And that is why we must keep Tam fully stocked with caffeine and sugar lest Sleep Tam overtake her and rampage Godzilla stlye thru the midwest.

Yeah, my dream triggers totally suck.

Hmmm, don't recall any dream fiascoes. I've had the disintegrating gun in awake mode. Brand new Beretta 950 on the range. Barrel popped up, slide came off the rear to hang by the spring, and the mag hit the floor. Another time, different gun, full sprint in "OH SHIT!" mode, and the mag hit the ground after I drew. I heard his call to his buddies. I probably hit the button at some point with my elbow (left handed). I had a spare mag, which I didn't always up 'til then.

I had a nightmare in which I was armed once. I had a Sigma...but the trigger on the early Sigma compact 9 really was about as bad as my dream.

Call me already!

I get the unstoppable bad guy dream on a semi-regular basis. Everything is functional, including yours truly, but the bullets just don't seem to do much.

Due to the way my sleeping mind/body works, I worry enough about the possibility of my actually picking up a "nightstand gun" while asleep that I have made it more challenging than it probably has to be to get to the gun in order to prevent nocturnal discharge.
