Signs of the times.

Death toll in China earthquake up to 15,000 and counting.

Another typhoon on the way to Myanmar, plus cholera and malaria.

Fires in Florida.

Gas and foreclosures up.

The dollar down.

A big, smiling Hillary.

The TeeWee cutting itself on in the mornings is supposed to help wake us up, not to chase me back under the covers.

Might this be the start of the TEOTWAWKI scenario that we've all been hoping for? Fire consuming the Earth, pestilence...we can't leave out bacillary and amoebic dysentery. What about bubonic plague? It's been making a comeback in the third world of late, it seems.

b&n,
Bubonic plague is alive and well here in AZ and NM thank you very much. One reason that we work hard to exterminate the critters who carry such nasties. The other reason being that those critters tend to draw diamondbacks looking for a snack.

'The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting. A firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men.

On the roads there was a white lined nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice.'

"Buy more ammo! The end of the world is nigh!"

Maybe I should grow a beard and start walking around parks with a sign.

For your listening pleasure, The Kingston Trio with The Merry Minuet:

They're rioting in Africa. They're starving in Spain. There's hurricanes in Florida, and Texas needs rain.
The whole world is festering with unhappy souls. The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles.
Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch. And I don't like anybody very much!
But we can be tranquil and thankful and proud, for man's been endowed with a mushroom-shaped cloud.
And we know for certain that some lovely day, someone will set the spark off... and we will all be blown away.
They're rioting in Africa. There's strife in Iran. What nature doesn't do to us... will be done by our fellow man.
