Fudds in the crosshairs.

The VPC is making noise about wanting to bring "intermediate sniper rifles" under the regulation of the National Firearms Act of 1934. You know, like machineguns and suppressors.

What's an "intermediate sniper rifle"? Apparently anything with a scope and a shoulder stock that's not a .22, if you read it broadly enough. Certainly your .338 WinMag elk rifle is a goner.

Remember: Whether it's too big, too small, too powerful, not powerful enough, too cheap, or too expensive, they want your gun gone.

Sounds like they want my '03A3, and the .270 and .303 that I inherited from by dad.
The single shot 22 rifles will be next.

They're so greedy and selfish, and they call it "caring"...

Particularly look at the definition of "Armor Piercing" ammo": It's classified as that if it will penetrate a police vest, designed to provide some protection against handgun rounds. The .22LR is the only common rifle round that would survive. Of course, all handguns will be banned as unsuitable for sporting purposes, and then they'll notice that the .22LR rifles aren't recommended for deer hunting...

I loved that part in EFAD, where a dicta was handed down from up high, making any and all scoped rifles a felony. I laughed.

I think someone at the VPC is cribbing from our notes.

All right, who let them hear the "vote from the rooftops" jokes?

This is not new news. I especially liked the report comparing shooting down a airliner with a .50 caliber sniper rifle to "bird hunting". When you don't even know the difference between a rifle and a shotgun it is pretty difficult propose legislation on guns because you consider yourself a "expert".

Yes, because those .30-06's are so used in crimes. Why, I'll bet they'll stop a LOT of drive-by bolt-action shootings. And criminals will no longer be able to knock over a 7-11 with a Springfield 1903.....

Cripes, what rank stupidity.

.30-06s were used to shoot down aircraft... in machine gun configurations. It should be possible to damage a helicopter as long as it is hovering.

Since when has that stopped them?

Name ONE gun law that reads as though it was written by someone who knows which end the projectile comes out of.

"It is not clear whether the new 30 caliber will be a .338 Lapua Magnum..."

Uh, yeah, it is pretty clear-- it will not be. (Because it can't be.)

Why, we need to ban those dangerous, easily concealed Winchester model '94 lever actions. Their .30-30 round has almost the same ballistics as the AK-47 round.

They're capable of rapid fire too... I saw Chuck Connors do it on TV when I was a kid...

(Yes, I know the Rifleman used an 1892 in .44-40.)

Of course, when all law abiding citizens are forced to give up their firearms in all shapes and sizes, the good ole USA will have no more shootings or other gun related crimes. It's a fact. Criminals never ignore the law.

Intermediate sniper rifles?!??!! Grumble grumble frickin idiots grumble grumble.

.....longest kill...... at 1,800 meters.......10 TIMES THE MAX EFFECTIVE RANGE OF DEER HUNTERS!

..... 180 meters is the max effective range of deer hunters? If that were the case, deer would be pretty safe west of the 100th Meridian........

Now, I live in a gun control heavy country, where carry is illegal, 0.5% of the population is licenced to own pistols(and range pistols only, most of them are .22s), but even here, they wouldn't even think about banning hunting rifles.

Casualties from hunting rifles here basically come in two sorts, mostly hunting accidents(maybe one a year on average, tops), but once every 2-5 years or so some jealous hunter shoots his(no documented women doing it to my knowledge) (ex)wife.

We also have some militia/reserves with assault rifles stashed in their gun safes, and a few anti-sabotage force types with SMGs, zero misuse from either of those.

Basically all crimes involving guns(apart from above mentioned wife killers) are done with illegal smuggled weapons(pistols/SMGs/ARs) or weapons stolen from military storage(again ARs). The SMGs/ARs used by a hardcore criminal element of around ~200 critters who rob banks, or more often, money transports.

Well, there was one army cadet who went on a killing spree with his AR about oh 15 years ago or so, but that's the sole exception.

Oh and to legally acquire a gun here, you need to either: a) be a part of a gun club for at least two years(only way to get a licence for a pistol), or b) get a hunting permit and have land to hunt on. Then you need to apply for a gun licence on the gun you intend to buy, which takes about a month.

They didn't do much research, seeing as how Hathcock zooted a guy at 2,286m, and Rob Furlong bagged a guy at 2,430m in Afghanistan. As far as I know, there has never been an instance of a violent crime being committed with a .50 cal rifle.

Hardly anybody's ever been killed with a scoped deer rifle here, either, but try telling the gun-fearing weenies that...

I think everyone is missing the point here. They are not trying to protect the public. This is being crafted to protect the political class. They know exactly what they are doing.

Polititions prefer unarmed subjects. Criminals prefer unarmed victims.

Here in CA, it's against the law to drive over 65, too.

If you read it broadly enough even .22lr could go as it doesn't say where vest penetration occurs. If they say that .22lr could penetrate the side flaps that don't offer protection, then they could get it there. Damn I'm sick of these fools.
