So there's a "mass* shooting" that would have been a page three wet firecracker in Compton, but do it to some cracker kids from the 'burbs serving their four years at the Special Snowflake Warehouse & Indoc Center and the nation just loses its collective $#!+.
Apparently busting caps in three people's asses is a lot bigger deal if you do it out the window of an '08 Bimmer instead of a '94 Caprice.
*Either "mass" or "shooting" having been defined rather sharply down, apparently.

Amazing Isn't it....
I did not know this. His parents forced him to drive a six year old car? Monsters! No wonder the poor dear acted out.
Amen... If it was Chiraq, it wouldn't have even raised an eyebrow...
Even on sites like Daily Beast and Gawker, some people are pointing out that this is a very slow summer night in Chicago, and wondering why the outrage seems to be reserved for white victims only.
It could only happen in Calif. (or Taxachusetts, or New Jersey, or New York, etc.). If the little creep had tried it at TX A&M -- or UT El Paso, etc. -- his "reign of terror" in town would have been cut very short, and it probably wouldn't have made such as splash in the media.
To be fair, the urban gang violence usually doesn't come with manifestoes attached. Such "normal" city violence usually also is borne out of failed negotiations in the clandestine pharmaceutical business, not motivated out of vengeance against a world dedicated to keep nutjobs from copulating with partners of his own choice.
So yeah, this one barely moves the needle when it comes to actual violence, but the surrounding items make it a bit more than the latest activities of Sumdood.
Everyone knows instinctively that utes murdering themselves and bystanders in some redlined neighborhood is not any more of a personal threat than a piranha bite.
Crazies in suburbia are a whole different thing. Oh, and @Bob G., UT kinda kicked of the whole thing with the Whitman dude.
UTers of the time returned fire on the Whitman dude, not sure you could get the same reaction in Austin today.
Um, maybe because the Santa Barbara event was heavily infused with affluenza ?
> some cracker kids
> reserved for white victims only
Hmm. I only found out today that the three people stabbed to death were called George Chen, James Cheng and David Wang. And the man shot to death was named Christopher Michaels-Martinez (who I suspect the UC system categorized as "Hispanic" based on surname). All four men murdered were minorities (for values of "minority"). This is very interesting from a sociological perspective....
> carrying a camera on a tripod
A while back I was photographing some ducks (a pair of northern shoveller hens, to be precise) with camera on a tripod. The ducks cheerfully ignored me the whole time even though I was in plain sight and making more noise and motion than optimal for critter photographing. However when I got done and folded the tripod to move on, creating a long metallic object the ducks freaked out and exploded out of the water and across the pond. Pattern recognition is about all I expect from duckbrains, but one would hope for better from people attending or working at a college!
I haven't seen much hand-wringing over the mass stabbing that occurred just before the shooting.

I think it might be that the media can get more anti-firearm
spin from headlines something
like, Death Toll Reaches
Seven in CA Mass Shooting
When are we going to rein in the insane knife culture in this country? When will our legislators get the spine to stand up to Chicago Cutlery?
And I'm still waiting for Tam to come clean about her ties to Big Beamer.
Also given little attention by the media is Elliot Rodger's use of his vehicle to assault two bicyclists after he had stabbed and shot others.
