Love it. Should be on the shelf next to "Go, wolverine go"
....and THE LITTLE FOREST FIRE THAT COULD....
Ranks right up there with, "And to think that I smelled it on Mulberry street."
Ahahaha! Mammal-normative, cis-bunny speciesist! All animals are equally cute and fuzzy with culturally-competent norming.
That said [spoiler alert !1!!], there's something wrong with a person whose heart doesn't break a little when the poor velveteen rabbit is consigned to the sack of rubbish and tossed into the shed.
but far, far away from "My little Honey Badger"
And one that succeeded.
Audiobook version read by Samuel L. Jackson.
Then there's "bunnyduck", which was the product of a bunny and a duck that fell in love.
I saw a book mock-up, or whatever you call it, with illustrations, 25 years ago, but nothing since.
The Velveteen Toad and the others suggested here could become part of a collection of Addams-esque children's stories in the same vein as Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner.
Make Way for Banana Slugs
At least it wasn't Bo, the velveteen frog.

"My First ASBO"
Not convinced that it would be a "Failed" book ...
Is Velveteen anything like Velveeta???
velveeta'd Toad is a recipe in a failed cookbook.
Velveeta's Toad in the Hole is a recipe in a failed cookbook of British cuisine.
Tam, if you're not following #LesserSF, you should be.
