Why I didn't go to my range for Friday Night Steel or the Saturday morning bowling pin match this week:
We just generally avoid that corner of town this weekend.

Like I alluded to on book of face: certainly not the place for misanthropes.

Yeah, when I lived a few blocks North and equidistant between those points this was a great weekend for staying home and off the roads.

I am a gearhead and love the race though.

I just get too aggravated at all the others who show up to watch.

Actually they don't bother me. It's the ones who show up to drink and act boorish.

Indy 500?
Probably as worse as going to downtown Stuttgart when there's a soccer match. Police in platoon strength everywhere, all dressed up in full riot gear.
I once dropped my wife off at the main station on a Saturday, wondering if there was a terror threat when I realized in was just because of a 1st league soccer match and all those hooligans.

I well recall the Tom Slick cartoon in which an Indian tribe of exactly half a thousand members lost their fruit orchards and so sponsored an auto race to raise funds.

They were the Apple-less Indian Five Hundred.

"Circle City" has corners?

Actually, I remember those days when I lived at 38th and between Lafayette and 465....

Back then, of course, it was not IRL, But CART, and they had 2 weekends of time trials and then the carburation day parties and then the race.....

A zoo even then.

My favorite comment from the last time we went there: "Is he selling parking or crack?"

I do want to see the race one more time. Maybe I'll come down for the 100th. I think it would be cool to have it- even a single lap of it, back in Cedar lake/Crown point/Lowell where it all started.

Don't blame you a bit... NOT a bit!

I used to love this Sunday when working the Sunday morning sign on shift at the local radio station. I cut the feed in and could sit back and relax except for the ID at the top and half hours.

My wifes father is in the hall of fame there. The late great Ted Horn.
So it is very much a tradition to include the 500 for our Memorial Day weekend.

Great 500 this year. For the first time in a long while I wish I would've gone down there.

Chicken.

But then I left town right after the race started to get back home and beat the traffic. I do need to take my son to the race at least once.
