Automotif XXIX...

Residing on one short block near Roseholme Cottage in SoBro are...
 ...not one...
 ...not two...
...but three Subaru WRXs.

(Also a regular Impreza hatch and a couple Foresters, because Broad Riparians apparently love them some Subies.)

It is the car du jour for aged hippies. Get a truck, any truck and you are miles ahead.

Uh, yeah. The WRX is the car for aging hippies.

1985 called, Grandpa; it wants its car magazines back. :p

After my wife has had to make two rescue runs because my truck popped its lower radiator hose we're starting to look at biting the bullet and financing something with better gas mileage for me to commute in and allow downtime for me to DIY the truck's head gaskets.

Ideally we'd like to do under $10k with 0 down.

I thought about a WRX but can't find any nearby in that price point not beat to death.

Was eyeballing a nice Mazda 3 hatch but it sold before I could get out to see it.

Also considering the Honda Fit.

Scott J,

The Honda Fit is a lot more fun to drive than it has any right to be. Then again, Honda's always been good at designing subcompacts that aren't completly depressing shitboxes to operate. ;)

I know, I owned 1996 Integra GS-R for awhile. It was a blast.

I haven't driven one yet but am really thinking it's the way to go. Its EPA city rating is almost double what I average in the Dodge. I could almost pay the note on fuel savings alone.

Probably going to go with the flappy paddle slushbox since those are easier to find.

Probably will be mid June before I do anything. My plate is quite full the next few weeks and this ankle fracture makes me grumpier than normal.

Manda's little Impreza is a pretty awesome car. With how it handles (just a step up from the base model,) I'm pretty sure if I ever got my hands on a Wrex, I'd get myself in trouble.

I wonder if this is going to keep going into the future with Subaru's regained love for the CVT. Sure, most enthusiasts are still getting the WRX with the row your own gearbox, but (and I speak from experience) there's nothing like a CVT to suck the life out of an engine.

So what weekend is the SoBro Rally being held? I'll clear my schedule.

At my last "big state U" I managed to lose 4 students from my college in WRX accidents.

I do try to include "basic life skills" in passing comments as appropriate during my lectures, but somehow overlooked "wear your seatbelt when showing off in your new hot car"

I've noticed before that Broad Ripple seems to be a Pacific Northwest ex-pat enclave. You seem to provide more proof with each photo.
