QotD: Logic Is Dead Edition...

Chief Weems on the sudden binge of municipal governments in Georgia buying metal detectors and hiring security to keep CCW permit holders from being able to legally tote in government buildings in the Peach State after HB60 goes into effect on the first of July:
"That’s right; people who took no steps to keep out armed criminals are taking steps to keep out people who have actually passed background checks.  I just wanted to make sure everybody was clear on that."
Roll that one around in your head a bit.

Some are doing similar things in IllAnnoy too. Shops that have had people surreptitiously carrying firearms into their establishments for years and did not even know it are now posting "magical" safety signs forbidding guns in the establishment.

leaddog, I understand there has been some "Put up the 'No Guns' sign or we won't renew your business license" encouragement in Chicago.

Is not difference between criminals and law-abiding. Is difference between old ability to pretend real hard no is guns around and new, weaker ability to pretend real hard no is guns around.

Before, they felt entitled to avoid thinking too hard about it. Now, they feel like someone's bound to notice that they don't have a Policy In Place.

I like what my credit union in Texas did: they post a red circle&bar over the silhouette of a handgun on their front door.

This is meaningless under Texas law, which requires a conspicuously located, high contrast sign of specific letter size and exact wording to prevent CHL carry in businesses.

When I asked the manager about the "no gun" sign, she said that corporate insisted it be posted, but that she knew it was meaningless because several of her tellers asked if that meant they could no longer carry concealed at work. She told them to continue carrying.

And that was how I learned my credit union is a very safe place to bank.

This crap is why we can't have good laws in Georgia, I guess.

But before it was ILLEGAL. So they couldn't have a gun on the premises, so why bother checking?

Now it's legal, so they have to check to make sure no one i bringing a gun onto the premises, because that's no longer illegal.

You see, the law has this special effect where people actually can't break the law ince its enacted.

That's why we have police, prisons , courts, lawyers, and an entire criminal justice system to punish people that break the law - you see, because no one CAN break the law.

If it is legal to carry on the premises.....how will having a metal detector stop said carry?

Our municipal buildings removed them after the first day of, "Yes, I have a gun.....have a nice day."
