I was at the used book store today...

...trying (and failing) to find some out-of-print stuff by an author I'm getting into, when I noticed that one of the cashiers was wearing a "Dendarii Free Mercenaries" tee shirt.

I actually used "zomg!" in a spoken sentence.

She told me where to find it online.

But of course. You'll also need one of their "Bharaputra Laboratories" shirts. ;)

I've seen those shirts at SF conventions. I used to see Dorsai related items as well, but that's less and less common these days.

All I can say is "thank God for Wikipedia" or I'd be even more clueless than I am. The thing about historical fiction is, I already know most of the characters.

How is "zomg" pronounced? Like "zom[bie]" with a soft g at the end?

Or "Zo-Emm-Gee"?

I lean toward the former, but neither really sound good.

For that matter, is zomg just an intensified omg?

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over.

It's pronounced "ZO-my-god", all in one breath.

Internet lore maintains that it came about from the pinkie finger missing the shift key and hitting "Z" instead when trying to type "OMG". Therefore, only twinks and poseurs type "zomg" in all caps. :)

I might hate myself for knowing that already, but I also yelped happily when I saw there was such a shirt, so there would really be no point.

I actually feel better about myself since I thought it was one syllable. Not that I would ever say it out loud anyway. Somehow I just don't think "Zomg! Look at the sorry finish on that concrete!" would fit my image at work.

I actually like the one with the crest of The University of Vorbarr Sultana. The motto, of course, is "Knowledge is Power."

Don't lose your forward momentum.

I have both that one, a DFM polo (very discreet - I wear it to work); along with a Harrington Steading and protector's own polos and a RMN button-down :)

http://www.pegasuspublishing.com/xcart/home.php is a good source for a bunch more fun shirts.

This is the place I hinted at the other day for the Siegling's tote bags. I must now humbly apologize for not having posted the link.

"What you put in it is up to you..."

On a somewhat related topic, I worked up a design for a Club 250 t-shirt I just might screen up someday, since cafepress doesn't do white on black.

7.62x54R,

I'm pretty sure you've heard me say "zomg! A Frommer Stop!" in person.

Hmmn, I may have to rig up a Barrayran ImpSec uniform for a friend of mine. Patches & pins from that site, with some surplus com-bloc uniform bits left over from when I was going to run a costuming dealers room booth at a con (Specializing in Mad-Max type stuff), and I think I've got a suitable flap-holster somewhere to go on the belt... (wanders off muttering about the details and likely walks right into a lamppost)

I assumed you were speaking Austrian.

I got most of my shirts either as gifts or at cons (and therefore paid not the shipping). The Dendaari Free Mercenary polo, in particular, has a different logo than the one on the T-shirt on tams linked site (I have that T as well; was wearing it yesterday).

I think Pegasus is out of the sci-fi book market (I heard a rumor about licenses not being renewed, due to possible moving pictures deals in re the Honorverse).

I also have a Royal Manticoran Diplomatic Service presentation pen/pencil set and a pocketknife to go with :)
